Wilson shines at Mideast 1-A track regional

PRINCETON -- T.J. Wilson turned in a memorable performance during his final home meet Saturday afternoon.

The Princeton track star claimed three gold medals and a silver, and helped the Dawgs claim the men's team title during the Class 1-A Mideast Regional track and field championships.

Wilson emerged victorious in the 110-meter hurdles (14.95 seconds), 300 hurdles (39.3) and triple jump (44 feet, 11 inches). He captured second in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 10 inches.

The Dawgs' James Drew and Derek West ended up first and second, respectively, in the pole vault. Tyrone Manuel placed third in the 800 run and Decardo Cole seized regional runner-up honors in the high jump.

Princeton's 400-meter relay of Wesley Thompson, Will Whitley, Javantae Davis and Thurman Creech finished second in 45 seconds. The foursome of Chris Dewberry, Kent Boyette, Jason Massey and Tyrone Manuel grabbed a silver medal in the 3,200 relay.

Also headed Friday's state championship meet at N.C. State are six Rosewood competitors -- James Harris, Ahkeem Simms, David Spriggs, Billy Page and Jacquez Raynor.

On the girls' side, the Dawgs' Jania Bogle earned gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and long jump. Joining her at N.C. State will be regional champion Tifinne Battle (triple jump), Ashley Gagliano (pole vault runner-up), Brittany Baker (long jump) and Linda Smith (3,200 run).

Regional runner-up Sade Davis (100 hurdles) and Meghan Millard (pole vault) qualified as individuals in the state meet. The Eagles' 3,200 relay of Teresia Burnette, Michaela Smith, Armani Perry and Alisa Dill advanced to the state meet with a third-place performance.

Spring Creek's Richelle Butler finished the regional runner-up in the shot put, while Melanique DeVeaux tied for third in the high jump.
