Storms wash out games

Weather permitting, tennis archrivals Charles B. Aycock and Eastern Wayne will see action in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A dual-team playoffs. The Golden Falcons (12-1 overall) entertain Southern Lee, while Eastern Wayne (11-3) travels to Currituck County.

On the Carolina 1-A Conference scene, Princeton welcomes Ayden-Grifton for baseball and softball games today. Rosewood and Spring Creek travel to North Duplin and North Johnston, respectively, for league battles on Thursday.

Continuing with the Carolina Conference, archrivals Princeton and Rosewood meet today to decide the women's soccer title. The Dawgs are 5-0 in conference play, while the Eagles -- the three-time defending league champions -- are 4-1. The winner clinches the No. 1 seed for the NCHSAA playoffs.

Eastern Wayne's semifinal-round game in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference women's soccer tournament has been moved to Thursday. The second-seeded Warriors (6-5-4) will entertain the Beddingfield-Kinston winner at 7 p.m. on the Little Big Horn pitch.

Wayne Christian continues its quest for a fourth consecutive Carolina Christian baseball tournament championship this morning. The top-seeded Eagles (14-2 overall) opposed Trinity-Durham for the title at 10 a.m. on the Community Christian diamond in Wilson. The winner grabbed the automatic bid to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs, which begin Friday.

The 12-team field was released this afternoon.

Southern Wayne (11-13) starts its ECC baseball tournament run with a home contest against fifth-seeded Kinston. The Saints swept the regular-season series. First pitch is 7 p.m. in Dudley.

Charles B. Aycock's non-conference softball game against state-ranked D.H. Conley for today has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. Southern Wayne travels to Beddingfield for a pivotal ECC game, while Eastern Wayne plans to celebrate senior day against county foe Spring Creek.

Goldsboro will compete in the season-ending Eastern Plains 2-A Conference track and field championships at North Pitt. The event begins at 4 p.m. on the E.R. McNair Field track.
