KINSTON -- Keep applying the pressure.

Southern Wayne continued to force Kinston to make plays defensively in a wild 8-7 road win on Friday night.

Scott Holloman's single to left in the top of the sixth inning was booted by Vikings outfielder Sirtera Brewer allowing Zach Grantham to score and tie the game at 7-7. Brewer's error and poor relay throw also allowed Holloman, who plowed over Kinston third baseman Cleveland Banks on the way to the plate, to score as well and give the Saints an 8-7 lead.

The Vikings committed a total of six errors and just one of Southern Wayne's runs, all of which were charged to starter Anthony Clark, were earned. The Saints also struggled defensively making three errors of their own.

"Sometimes it's not pretty," Southern Wayne head coach Trae McKee said. "Scott had a big hit and we took advantage of a misplayed ball there. Once (Brewer) overthrew the cutoff man I knew I had to send (Holloman) and take a chance. The third baseman was in the way and it was obstruction. He would have scored anyway, but without anyone trailing him I had to try and score him."

earn the win and Tyler Edwards pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up the save.

"Phil came in and did a good job and competed and it was good to see Tyler really slam the door," McKee said.

Kinston scored two unearned runs on a pair of Saints errors in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-6 lead before Holloman's hit scored the tying and go-ahead runs.

Keenan Winn trotted home on an error with two outs in the top of the fifth to give the Saints a 6-5 advantage.

Kinston led 5-1 after three innings until the Saints rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Winn started the rally with a leadoff walk and later scored on an error.

Michael Douglas' sac-fly scored Kevin Wise and trimmed the deficit to 5-3. Edwards added an RBI groundout and Grantham's RBI double tied the game at 5-5.

Anthony Clark scored on a Southern Wayne error in the home half of the second to give the Vikings a 4-1 lead. Josh Lovick later scored on Landon DeBruhl's single to center to give Kinston a 5-1 cushion.

The Vikings scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first. C.J. Bradshaw's RBI single tied the game at 1-1. Brewer and Jeremiah Lanier added RBI singles to give Kinston a 3-1 advantage.

Jordan Williams' RBI single in the top of the first gave the Saints a 1-0 lead.

Southern Wayne (11-11, 5-3 ECC) hosts Wilson Hunt at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
