WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock secured its second consecutive Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference men's regular-season tennis championship with a 9-0 rout of short-handed Wilson Hunt on Wednesday afternoon.

Top-seeded Blake Vail, the two-time defending ECC singles champion, blitzed Harry Lamm 6-0, 6-0. Teammates Addison Westbrook, Ben Nichols and Dylan Quinn each claimed a straight-set singles decision.

Rawad and Kareem Alawar each drew a forfeit.

Vail-Quinn and Alawar-Alawar triumphed in actual contested doubles matches. The third-seeded tandem of Brad Wilson-Austin Walker collected a forfeit.

Hunt had just four players available for the match.

The No. 5-ranked Golden Falcons (11-1 overall, 9-0 ECC) conclude regular-season play at home today against county rival Southern Wayne. First serve is 4 p.m.

Baseball

Rebels triumph

SALEMBURG --North Duplin plated two seventh-inning runs and edged Lakewood 5-4 in non-conference action Wednesday.

Brian Chase led the Rebels with three hits and three RBI. Konner Brock added two hits.

Will Lanier worked five-plus innings and received a no-decision. James Kornegay tossed the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up the win in relief.

North Duplin (5-11 overall) entertains state-ranked North Johnston at 7 p.m. today.

Softball

Aycock rolls

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock wasted no time putting away Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Kinston 10-0 on Tuesday night.

The game was shortened to just five innings by the mercy rule.

Brooke Bell paced the Golden Falcons with a 3-for-3 effort, including a double. Torie Benton, Autumn Pittman, Rachel Jordan, Cara Frederick, Amber Baker and Anna Sullivan each added one hit in the vistory.

Pittman pitched three innings of one-hit ball to earn the win in the pitcher's circle.

Charles B. Aycock (15-1 overall) welcomes future ECC foe Erwin Triton tonight at 7 p.m.

Rebels edged

SALEMBURG -- North Duplin let an early four-run lead slip away en route to a 7-6 defeat against Lakewood on Wednesday afternoon.

Skylar McCarty and Caitlin Davis each talllied two hits respectively for the Rebels. Tearra Ammons, Ashley Cartwright and Ansley Hill each added one hit in the loss.

North Duplin (5-8 overall) plays host to defending Carolina Conference champion North Johnston tonight at 7 p.m.

Soccer

Eagles win

KENLY -- Rosewood picked up its second consecutive win on the soccer field with a 4-1 triumph over Carolina 1-A Conference rival North Johnston on Wednesday night.

Gabrielle Cornman delivered two goals and an assist for the Eagles. Kailtyn Conger tallied one goal and one assist. Chelsea Sasser added the final marker in the win.

Rosewood (7-5 overall, 2-0 CC) travels to Princeton on Monday.

Track

Cougars prevail

TARBORO -- Goldsboro swept all four relays en route to a victory over Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foes North Lenoir and Tarboro on Tuesday afternoon.

Tyquan Sprangle claimed the long jump and the 200-meter dash.Tyrelle Jackson won the triple jump, while Andre Montgomery earned first place in the shot put. Josh McCoy bested the field in the 400-meter run.

The Cougars travel to Farmville Central today.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Norwayne 9, Mount Olive 6 -- Adam Pate, Hunter Jones and Justin Price each tallied two hits apiece for the Cobras. Pate earned the win on the pitcher's mound. Norwayne (11-0 overall) entertains Greenwood on Monday.
