CLEMMONS -- Barton College senior and Wayne County native Jonathan Burke just missed claiming medalist honors during the season-ending Conference Carolinas men's golf championships.

Burke carded a 54-hole round of 7-over par 217, finishing one stroke behind tournament champion Kyle Scruggs of Limestone (S.C.) College. Scruggs recorded the lone even-par round of the three-day tournament contested at Tanglewood Park.

However, Burke and his Bulldog teammates claimed the team crown with a scant two-stroke victory, 885-887, over Coker (S.C.) College. Belmont Abbey took third in the 11-team event with Limestone and Queens University completing the top five.

Mount Olive's Pete Skirpstas ended up tied for sixth among the 55 individual golfers with a three-day score of 220, and earned all-tournament honors. Teammates Fabrizio Ceppi (226) and Riley Boyette (232) settled for ties at 17th and 28th, respectively.

Ryan Campbell and Scott Woodard added scores of 234 and 240, respectively, for the Trojans. MOC concluded the 54-hole event with an eighth-place effort of 910 strokes.

On the women's side, Kristin Moberg seized all-tournament accolades after recording an eighth-place tie at 245. Rookie Valentina Urquiola tied for 20th overall at 260, while Tegan Skirpstas was 25th with a score of 267.

Deborah Woodrum (289) and former Charles B. Aycock standout Brooke Newell (295) also competed for the Trojans.

Pfeiffer University emerged the team champion with a 958, while runner-up Belmont Abbey finished nine strokes back. Queens University settled for third with Anderson and MOC rounding out the top five.
