Zach Cozart had three hits, including his first home run, while Dallas Buck worked 5 2/3 innings en route to his first Double-A victory as Carolina defeated Mobile 8-6 at Hank Aaron Stadium before 4,157 fans on Tuesday night.
The Mudcats (4-2) spoiled the BayBears' (4-2) home opener thanks to two longballs, one tape-measure shot by Juan Francisco in the first inning and then Cozart's leadoff homer in the seventh. Cozart added a single and a run-scoring double as the Mudcats won their second straight on a 10-game road trip.
Buck (W, 1-0) retired the first six hitters before allowing a leadoff double in the third, but the BayBears didn't get on the board until the fourth on a grounder by Bryan Byrne.
Kinston held on to beat Wilmington 1-0 in a rain shortened game called in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday night at Historic Grainger Stadium
The Indians (3-3) got another great performance from Kelvin De La Cruz (2-0) who did not give up a run, striking out nine through six strong innings. De La Cruz gave up only four hits while not walking a batter. He leads the Carolina League with 19 strikeouts this season.
The K-Tribe got the only run they needed in the bottom of the first inning, when Matt McBride bounced a ball to Wilmington's shortstop and avoided a potential inning ending double play by beating the relay throw to first base. Cord Phelps scored on the play and the run held up for the K-Tribe.
The Indians return to action Wednesday night, game time 7pm and Jeanmar Gomez will take the hill for the K-Tribe.
