Rosewood used an eight-run fourth inning to defeat Carolina 1-A Conference rival North Duplin 12-2 in five innings on Thursday night.

Caitlin Davis notched two hits for the Rebels. Angelica Favela added an RBI.

Haile Meadows earned the win in the pitcher's circle for Rosewood. Meadows struck out nine batters and allowed just two hits in a complete-game effort.

North Duplin (4-7 overall, 1-2 CC) returns to action Apr. 21 at home against Spring Creek. Rosewood (7-2, 2-0 CC) visits archrival Princeton the same day.

Hawks roll

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir breezed past Eastern Plains 2-A Conference rival Goldsboro 20-0 on Thursday.

Kayla Letchworth struck out four Cougars and earned the win in the pitcher's circle.

Mindy Stallings finished with a 4-for-4 night at the plate for the Hawks. Kendal Letchworth added two hits.

Jags seize first

FARMVILLE -- Greene Central suffered a 5-2 setback in a first-place showdown with Eastern Plains 2-A Conference rival Farmville Central.

Jessica Moore endured the pitching loss for the Rams. Liz Webb provided one-plus inning of five-strikeout relief.

Greene Central outhit the Jaguars 5-3, but couldn't score until the sixth and seventh innings.

The Rams (7-6 overall, 3-1 EPC) will play two games Saturday in the Lady Viking Invitational at Sara Law Complex in Greenville. First pitches are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Baseball

Chargers dropped

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day never got its offense in gear throughout its 19-0 loss to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Cody Neal and Hil Tanner each delivered a double respectively in the loss.

The Chargers will host Grace Christian on Thursday in the opening round of the Charger Diamond Classic.

Tigers earn road win

CLINTON -- James Kenan collected 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined, and earned an error-plagued 12-8 victory over Union.

Tyler Haney pounded out three hits and three RBI for the Tigers. Anthony Kennedy (two RBI) and Kedron Foster contributed three hits apiece. Austin Benson cranked out a double and drove in two runs.

Haney threw a complete game and fanned 13 Spartan batters.

The teams combined for 15 errors in the Super Six 1-A Conference game.

James Kenan (3-8 overall, 2-3 SS) entertains county archrival Wallace-Rose Hill on Apr. 21.

Track

Warrior girls blaze

PIKEVILLE -- Eastern Wayne captured first place in 10 events as it bested Charles B. Aycock and Wayne Christian on Thursday afternoon.

The Warriors finished with 85 team points.

Devondra Randall (triple jump), Brittany Franklin (300 hurdles, 100 hurdles) Leanna Kirkland (1600 meters, 800 meters), Kelly Gregorcyk (3200 meters) and Jazmine Middleton (100 meters, 200 meters) each earned first-place honors for the Warriors.

The Warriors 400- and 3,200-meter relay teams also claimed first place.

CBA boys dominate

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock brought home 14 first-place finishes in a three-team meet Thursday afternoon.

Chris Gustafson (shot put, discus), Craig Murdoch (long jump, triple jump), Khendra Reid (high jump), Deven Sanders (100 meters, 200 meters), Chris Dawson (300 hurdles), Nick Redding (400 meters) and Channon Martin (800 meters) each earned first-place finishes for the Golden Falcons.

Aycock swept the relays.

Stacy Edwards (110 hurdles) and Zach Parrish (1,600 run) each earned first-place finishes for Eastern Wayne.

Tennis

Chargers halted

Faith Christian of Rocky Mount swept all six singles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over Wayne Country Day on the tennis courts at Wayne Community College on Thursday.

Chris Cash, Matt Cash, Chad Sheredan, Louis Griffin, Trey Perry and Dix Glen each earned a singles points for the Patriots. The pairs of Chris Cash-Griffin and B.R. Hall-Keith Council each earned a point in doubles play.

The tandem of Thomas Elmore-Jack Langston notched the Chargers' only win.

Wayne Country Day (2-5 overall) entertains Greenfield on April 21.

Eagles soar

Wayne Christian prevailed 6-3 over the Greene Central JV team at Herman Park on Thursday afternoon.

Taylor Gray, Woody Sasser, Daniel Glover, Kenneth Giordano, Matt Thompson and Jason Line each posted a win in singles play respectively.

Greene Central swept the doubles matches.

The duos of Dylan Smith-Ian Whitson, Josh Rencore-Ryan Thomas and Alex Deans-Scott McKeel each picked up a point for the Rams.

Wayne Christian (5-1 overall) plays host to Trinity-Raleigh on Apr. 24.

Golf

Gators second

KENLY -- Blake Rousay carded an 18-hole round of 82 as Spring Creek finished second in a Carolina 1-A Conference match contested at Cardinal Country Club.

Graham Bennett added an 87 for the Gators, while teammates Tyquan Best and Ben Smith carded identical rounds of 92. Spring Creek finished with a four-player score of 353 compared to 313 for meet winner North Johnston.

Will Caughron led Rosewood to a third-place finish with a 97.

The teams return to action Apr. 20 at Ayden Country Club.

JV sports

* Baseball: Wayne Christian 14, Flora Macdonald 2 -- Gregory Johnson led the Eagles with three hits and five RBI. Jordan Crouthamel added two hits and two RBI. Dante Arthur allowed only two hits en route to the mound win. Wayne Christian improved to 5-0 on the season.

Middle schools

* Softball: Grantham 17, Spring Creek 2 -- Taylor Parker struck out 12 batters in four innings of work for the Bulldogs (5-3 overall). Hope Rose paced Grantham at the plate with two hits, including a double and a triple. Taylor Davis also reached base twice.
