LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir upended Southern Wayne 8-2 in non-conference softball action on Wednesday.
Mandy Stallings collected four hits and an RBI for the Hawks. Kristen Davenport and Amber Best each provided hits and an RBI.
Aaryn Deal picked up the win on the mound with six walks, four hits and four strikeouts.
Jordan Coor, Sara Nelson, Madison Davis, Lauren Darden and Chelsea Phillips each had a hit for the Saints.
Darden took mound loss.
North Lenoir (7-6 overall) visits Goldsboro at today. Southern Wayne (8-4 overall) will play a pair of games in the Lady Vikings Invitational on Saturday at D.H. Conley High School.
Baseball
CBA wins two straight
CLAYTON -- Charles B. Aycock earned its second win in as many days with a 9-4 non-conference decision over Clayton on Wednesday.
The Golden Falcons broke open a 2-2 ballgame with three runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh.
Will Edgerton went 2-for-4 at the plate, including a two-run home run. The homer was Edegerton's sixth of the season and his fourth in the last three days.
Jordan Quinn, Connor Narron and Nick McGee each provided an RBI.
Quinn earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 52/3 innings of work. Jimmy Kearney picked up the save in relief.
The Golden Falcons (11-4 overall) face East Carteret at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Kinston High School in the George Whitfield Invitational.
Rams respond
SNOW HILL -- A day after losing at conference opponent Tarboro, Greene Central rebounded with a 9-4 home victory over Eastern Plains 2-A foe Farmville Central.
Justin Everett and David Stallings each had two hits for the Rams. Alex Brann added a triple. Zack Chase earned the win while tossing 12/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Greene Central (8-6 overall, 3-1 EPC) faces Croatan at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Kinston High School in the George Whitfield Invitational.
Cougars fall in EPC
FARMVILLE -- Goldsboro exploded for three first-inning runs, but Farmville Central answered and cruised to a 14-4 victory in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference action Tuesday.
Vontarius Kornegay doubled for the Cougars, who remained winless in three EPC outings this season. Justin Buck (two RBI) batted 1-for-2, while Donald Lewis contributed one hit and an RBI.
A.J. Lane endured the pitching loss.
Goldsboro (1-10 overall) travels to three-time defending EPC champion North Lenoir today.
Panthers pounce PHS
PRINCETON -- North Johnston downed Carolina 1-A Conference foe Princeton 5-1 on Tuesday.
Matt Leverette contributed the Bulldogs' lone RBI. Dillon Daughtry and Kameron Harris also had hits.
Andrew Clough took the loss on the mound for Princeton.
Tennis
RHS earns win No. 2
Rosewood picked up its second win of the season in a three-day span with a 6-3 victory over Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday.
Cole Radcliff, Antonio Henriquez, Zach Behrend and Daniel Eluar each earned singles wins for the Eagles.
The doubles teams of Antonio Henriquez-Matt Binda and Behrend-James Henriquez were also victorious.
Rosewood (2-7 overall, 2-1 Carolina) plays host to North Johnston on April 20.
Golden Falcons roll
PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock rolled past North Lenoir 9-0 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
Individual results were not available.
Soccer
Hawks triumph
LaGRANGE -- Sasha Holeman converted a second-half penalty kick as North Lenoir edged Rosewood 1-0 in non-conference play Tuesday evening at Bullock Field.
Hawks goalie Allyson Sugg recorded 11 saves in the shutout.
North Lenoir (3-3-3 overall) entertains Goldsboro on April 27.
Golf
Lane Tree LGA
Sherry Minner emerged the game-of-the-week winner for tournament play March 30 at Lane Tree Golf Club.
Nan Jarrell claimed low putts and low net.
Betty Jean Gurley captured a clean sweep during weekly play March 23. She took game-of-the-week, low net and low putt honors.
Walnut Creek LGA
Betty Edwards seized play-of-the-day accolades during weekly tournament action on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.
Novella Zambelli and Evelyn Rose won first low gross and first low net, respectively. Nancy Satterfield and April Ellis took second low gross and second low net, respectively.
Linda Cannon topped the field for low putts.
Track
Cougars fall short
SNOW HILL -- Tarboro edged Goldsboro 65-64 in an Eastern Plains 2-A Conference tri-meet at Greene Central on Wednesday.
The Rams finished third with 44 points.
First-place finishers for the Cougars were Andre Montgomery (shot put), Freddie Jones (long jump), Demetrio Irby (high jump), Josh McCoy (400 meters) and Tyquan Sprangle (200 meters). Also finishing first were Bryan Johnson (two-mile) and the 1,600-meter relay team of McCoy, Charles Smith, Sprangle and McKieyell Wilson.
The Cougars travel to North Lenoir today.
JV sports
* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 13, D.H. Conley 6 -- Travis Musselman delivered three hits, drove in three runs and swiped three bases for the once-beaten Golden Falcons. Justin Barbour batted 2-for-4 with an RBI. Mick Walker homered and plated three runs in a 2-for-4 outing. Collin DuBose emerged the winning pitcher. Aycock improved to 10-1 overall this season.
* Girls' soccer: C.B. Aycock 1, Goldsboro 0 -- The Golden Falcons earned a regular-season sweep of the Cougars. Goldsboro (0-2-0 overall) plays host to Tarboro on April 20.
Middle schools
* Baseball: Rosewood 6, Eastern Wayne 5 -- Will Lane (two RBI) and John Winslow contributed two hits apiece for the Eagles. Brandon Duren tripled and earned the mound win. Tyler Folk picked up the save. Rosewood improved to 5-2 overall this season.
* Baseball: Norwayne 6, Rosewood 4 -- Dylan Hinnant and Adam Pate each supplied two hits for Norwayne. Pate earned the win on the mound while striking out five. Norwayne (8-0 overall) visits Dillard today.
