WILSON -- Jeff Carmel provided the go-ahead RBI and Charles B. Aycock defeated Wilson Fike 10-6 in eight innings on Tuesday.

Derek Limbaugh earned the win on the mound while tossing 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Will Edgerton went 4-for-5 with three RBI, including his fourth and fifth home runs of the season for the Golden Falcons. Jordan Quinn and Tyler Farmer (two RBI) provided three hits apiece.

Tyler Ruffin added a hit and two RBI.

Aycock (10-4 overall) visits Clayton at 4 p.m. today.

Walk haunts Warriors

GREENVILLE -- A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of sixth inning pushed across the go-ahead run as J.H. Rose hung for a 4-3 non-conference win over previously-unbeaten Eastern Wayne on Tuesday evening.

The No. 1-ranked 3-A team in the state, the Warriors issued a pair of intentional walks to load the bases with Rampants with one out in the sixth in hopes of setting up a double play. The plan backfired as a free pass brought home the eventual winning run.

Eastern Wayne outhit Rose 11-5 but was plagued by a pair of errors.

John Wooten went 3-for-3 with two RBI, including hit his sixth home run of the season. Walker Gourley and Robert Faucette each supplied two hits. Jose Ponce added an RBI.

The Warriors (11-1 overall) play Ocean Lakes from Virginia Beach at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the Jimmie R. Grimsley Hot Stove League Invitational at Guy Smith Stadium in Greenville.

Eagles crush JC

Ranked third in the latest Impactbaseball.com Independent 1-A poll, Wayne Christian pounded visiting Carolina Christian 1-A foe Johnston Christian 21-6 on Tuesday.

Dante Arthur contributed two hits for the Eagles including a home run and have five RBI. Arthur also picked up the win on the mound.

Travis Thomas and Kyle Harrell each collected two hits and two RBI. Chase Darden added two hits and four RBI and Dominick Arthur had two hits.

Hawks win big

BETHEL -- North Lenoir routed Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe North Pitt 18-0 on Tuesday.

Mike Wetherington led the Hawks attack with two hits and five RBI. Benji Harris collected two hits and three RBI. Grayson Phillips and Wes Brantley each provided two hits and two RBI.

Spencer Moye added two hits.

Wetherington earned the win on the mound, allowing two hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk in five shutout innings.

Rams fall

TARBORO -- Tarboro jumped on Greene Central early and held on for an 8-5, Eastern Plains 2-A Conference win on Tuesday.

Alex Brann had two hits and a pair of RBI for the Rams. Stephen McDonald and Derrick Grant each contributed a hit and an RBI.

Jasper Jones took the loss on the mound for Greene Central allowing four earned runs on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout in two innings.

AG stomps ND

CALYPSO -- Ayden-Grifton overpowered Carolina 1-A Conference opponent North Duplin 13-1 on Tuesday.

Shayne Deaver recorded the lone RBI for the Rebels and Will Lanier added a hit. Brian Chase took the loss on the mound. North Duplin was plagued by six errors.

Softball

Rebels hang on

CALYPSO -- North Duplin survived Ayden-Grifton and held on for 6-5 win on Tuesday.

The Rebels pushed across four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-2 lead. The Chargers answered with three runs in the top of the seventh to pull within 6-5 but couldn't close the gap.

Caitlin Davis finished with two hits for North Duplin. Tearra Ammons contributed a hit, an RBI and two stolen bases. Hanna Brock and Alonna Pate each added RBI. Ansley Hill and Kristen Strickland each had hits.

Skylar McCarty picked up the win on the mound. She allowed five runs (two earned) on three hits with nine strikeouts and three walks in a complete game effort.

The Rebels (4-6 overall, 1-1 Carolina) visit Rosewood on Thursday.

GC rolls

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central eased to a 14-0 win over Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe Tarboro on Tuesday.

Skyler Whitfield and Liz Webb each collected three hits for the Rams. Shanna Parker and Megan Lovett both contributed two hits.

Jessica Moore tossed four scoreless innings, allowing four hits with five strikeouts and no walks for the win on the mound. Webb pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Greene Central (7-5 overall, 3-0 EPC) visits Farmville Central today at 7 p.m.

North Lenoir blanked

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir never got its offense going in a 3-0 loss at North Pitt on Tuesday.

Kayla Letchworth and Mandy Stallings each went 1-for-3 for the Hawks.

Aaryn Deal took the loss on the mound, allowing five hits and six walks with six strikeouts.

North Lenoir (6-6 overall, 1-2 EPC) entertains Southern Wayne in non-conference play at 5 p.m. today.

Soccer

Chargers chop Oakwood

No. 1-ranked Wayne Country scored four times in the first 18 minutes and cruised to a 7-0 win over visiting Coastal Plains Independent 1-A member Oakwood on Tuesday.

Brooke Norris, Sara Best and Catherine Ford each scored for the Chargers. Catherine Ford also added a goal. Best and Norris each contributed assists.

Wayne Country Day (9-0 overall, 5-0 CPIC) hosts No. 2-ranked Community Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Tennis

Rams perfect in EPC

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central remained unbeaten in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play with a 9-0 victory over visiting Tarboro on Tuesday.

Eric Simmons, Colby Chase, Andrew Harrison, Jason Perry, Hunter Thigpen and Dillon Lee each earned singles win for the Rams.

The doubles teams of Chase-Harrison, Simmons-Perry and Thigpen-Lee were also victorious.

Greene Central (11-2 overall, 6-0 EPC) visits North Pitt on April 20.

WCDS stumbles

HENDERSON -- Wayne Country Day failed to win a match in its Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference opening 9-0 loss at Kerr-Vance on Tuesday afternoon.

The Chargers (2-4 overall, 0-1 CPIC) play host to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount at Wayne Community College on Thursday.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Rosewood 6, Eastern Wayne 5 -- Justin Lee and Grayson Wells both provided two hits for the Warriors. Eastern Wayne (5-3 overall) faces Grantham on April 21.
