DUDLEY -- Deborah Doran notched her fifth shutout of the season in goal and Eastern Wayne blanked county soccer archrival Southern Wayne 6-0 at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.

Doran notched one save for the Warriors, who improved to 4-3-2 overall and 4-2-0 against Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opposition.

Lillie Herlihy opened the scoring for Eastern Wayne with an unassisted goal in the seventh minute. Megan Macaleese collected goals in the 28th and 48th minutes off assists from Janielle Daniel and Danielle Daniel, respectively.

Danielle Daniel (two assists total) tallied an unassisted goal in the 35th minute. Brandi Dean provided goals in the 41st and 57th minutes.

Eastern Wayne entertains No. 1-ranked Jacksonville White Oak on Monday. The JV girls' contest kicks off at 5 p.m. on the Little Big Horn pitch.

CBA gets revenge

WILSON -- Jessica Price supplied the game-winning goal around the 67-minute mark as Charles B. Aycock edged Beddingfield 2-1 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play.

Price's goal helped the Golden Falcons avenge a one-goal loss to the Bruins less than three weeks ago.

Aycock's Samantha Parrish broke the scoreless tie four minutes into the match. Beddingfield countered on Corinia Botello's goal in the 22nd minute.

The Bruins played their second consecutive match without sophomore Jamie DeRatt. The team's leading scorer, DeRatt had a volleyball commitment in Atlanta.

The Golden Falcons (6-5-1 overall, 3-3 ECC) step outside conference play for a match Monday at North Lenoir. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Bullock Field.

Chargers slip by

WILSON -- Mack Thompson delivered the game's lone goal as No. 1-ranked and unbeaten Wayne Country Day stopped league nemesis Greenfield 1-0 on Friday evening.

Thompson scored in the 55th minute for the Chargers, who rose to 7-0-0 overall this season and 4-0-0 against Coastal Plains Independent Conference competition.

WCDS keeper Ellen Elmore recorded 12 saves in goal and earned her fourth shutout of the season. Elmore, who turned back numerous one-on-one chances by the Knights, has permitted just three goals in 560 minutes of action.

The Chargers entertain county archrival Wayne Christian on Monday.

Baseball

Tigers triumph

WARSAW -- Kendron Foster provided the game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh inning as James Kenan edged Midway 5-4 in Super Six 1-A Conference play Friday.

Gunner Wolz started the rally with a two-out double and was replaced by Daniel Bostic at second base. Kyle Bostic walked and Daniel scored on Foster's extra-base knock. Foster finished the game 1-for-3.

Ricky Langston doubled and picked up an RBI for the Tigers. Langston earned the mound win with two-plus innings of no-hit, two-strikeout relief behind starter Tyler Haney.

James Kenan (2-7, 1-2 SS) entertains Hobbton on Tuesday.

Rams cruise in EPC

Alex Brann pounded out three hits and drove in two runs during Greene Central's 18-0 conquest of Goldsboro on the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference scene Friday.

Jasper Jones added two hits and three RBI for the Rams. Teammate Wes Sowers battled 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Derek Grant yielded one hit and posted eight strikeouts in the five-inning, mercy-rule contest. The Cougars (1-9, 0-2 EPC) drew two walks.

The Rams (7-4, 2-0 EPC) continue league play Tuesday at Tarboro.

Hawks sink Vikings

LaGRANGE -- Benji Harris scattered four hits in six-plus innings and three-time defending Eastern Plains 2-A champion North Lenoir doubled up Tarboro 4-2 on Friday.

Harris logged six strikeouts and yielded one earned run. Mike Wetherington picked up the save for the Hawks, who had their 33-game, EPC regular-season win streak snapped by Farmville Central on Tuesday.

Tyler Potter, Wil Sutton (two RBI) and Wes Brantley (RBI) cranked out two hits apiece for North Lenoir. Potter scored twice.

The Hawks (6-4, 1-1 EPC) travel to North Pitt on Tuesday.

Game changed

WILSON -- C.B. Aycock's game at Wilson Beddingfield was rescheduled for Monday due to wet field conditions.

The Eastern Carolina 3-A affair begins at 4 p.m.

The Golden Falcons (8-4 overall) will attempt to snap a three-game skid in league play, while the Bruins seek their first conference victory in 2009.

Softball

Rebels defeated

PRINCETON -- Traci Bridgers tossed a one-hitter in the pitcher's circle as Princeton upended North Duplin 11-0 in Carolina 1-A Conference action Friday.

Bridgers posted nine strikeouts in the mercy rule-shortened affair.

Ansley Hill suffered the mound loss for the Rebels.

North Duplin (3-6, 0-1 CC) entertains Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday, while Princeton (4-4, 1-0) plays host to North Johnston.

JV sports

* Baseball: Greene Central 6, D.H. Conley 5 -- Kyle McLawhorn batted 3-for-3 and emerged the winning pitcher against the Vikings' ninth-grade squad. Gunner Tyndall added two hits in two at-bats. C.J. Faulkner earned the save in relief of McLawhorn. The Rams (5-2 overall) entertain Tarboro on Tuesday.
