KINSTON-- Make the most of your opportunities.

Eastern Wayne scored 13 runs on just five hits in its 13-3, six-inning victory over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Kinston.

Walker Gourley went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Colton Fulghum added a hit and three RBI. Cambric Moye and Robert Faucette each provided a hit and two RBI.

Zach Beachem got the start on the mound, and allowed one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts and a walk over two innings. Michael Fields earned the win in relief, allowing two earned runs on four hits in four innings of work.

Fields had three strikeouts.

The Warriors (9-0 overall, 5-0 ECC) visit Southern Wayne on Friday.

Eagles escape

Wayne Christian held off Fayetteville Christian for a 7-6 win on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Johnson, Dante Arthur and Stephen Galagher each contributed two hits for the Eagles. Travis Thomas, Kyle Harrell, Josh Burdett and Chase Darden all added a hit.

Luke Howell earned the win on the mound and Johnson picked up the save.

Wayne Christian (6-1 overall) travels to Trinity of Durham on Saturday.

Rams blank NP

SNOW HILL -- Jasper Jones pitched a complete game and Greene Central won its Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opener 4-0 over visiting North Pitt on Tuesday.

Jones scattered six hits while striking out six and walking one.

Alex Brann went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Rams with two doubles.

Greene Central (6-4 overall, 1-0 EPC) visits Goldsboro on Friday.

Rebels falter

KENLY -- North Duplin dropped its Carolina 1-A Conference opener 7-0 at North Johnston on Tuesday evening.

Konner Brock went 1-for-2 at the plate for the Rebels with a double. Brian Chase took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits with five walks and two strikeouts.

North Duplin (3-8 overall, 0-1 Carolina) was plagued by three errors.

The Rebels visit Princeton on Friday.

Softball

Warriors bounce back

KINSTON -- One day after losing to C.B. Aycock, Eastern Wayne responded with a 14-7 win at Kinston on Tuesday.

Carissa Turner, Lindsey Frederick and Morgan Smith each collected four hits and two RBI apiece for the Warriors. Casey Mitchell and Caitlin Turner both provided three hits and two RBI.

Smith earned the win in a complete-game effort while allowing seven runs on six hits with five strikeouts and six walks.

Eastern Wayne (5-6 overall, 2-3 ECC) travels to Southern Wayne on Friday.

Eagles shut out

Wayne Christian suffered a 19-0 setback in five innings at the hands of Fayetteville Christian on Tuesday afternoon.

Courtney Barrow, Reagan Hinton and Sarah McCollum each had hits for the Eagles.

Wayne Christian (3-4 overall) visits Kerr Vance on April 6.

Rosewood wins

Haile Meadows logged 13 strikeouts as Rosewood dumped Wilson Fike 2-0 in non-conference action.

Stephanie Hall led the Eagles' offense with two hits. Jennifer Hall and Kayla Ormond contributed one hit apiece.

Hawks stumble

FARMVILLE -- North Lenoir fell short in a 5-3,Eastern Plains 2-A Conference loss at Farmville Central on Tuesday.

Mandy Stallings, Kendale Letchworth, Kristen Davenport and Amber Best each collected a hit for the Hawks.

Aaryn Deal took the loss on the mound allowing seven hits while striking out six with six walks.

North Lenoir (5-5 overall, 0-1 EPC) travels to Tarboro on Friday.

CBA prevails

DUDLEY -- Charles B. Aycock survived its meeting with Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Southern Wayne and claimed a 3-2 win on Tuesday evening.

Samantha Parrish, Taylor DeMartini and Elvia Rodriguez each scored for the Golden Falcons. Samantha Parrish added an assist.

Aycock (5-5-1 overall, 2-3 ECC) travels to Wilson Beddingfield on Friday.

WCDS victorious

Wayne Country Day scored four times in the opening 40 minutes and earned a 4-0 victory over Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference rival Ridgecroft on Tuesday.

Kim Martell's goal, her first of the season, got the Chargers on the board in the 24th minute. Mack Thompson scored less than two minutes later to increase the lead to 2-0.

Thompson scored again in the 31st minute off an assist from Catherine Ford. Ford completed Wayne Country Day's scoring in the 34th minute.

The Chargers (5-0 overall, 3-0 CPIC) visit Rosewood at 7 p.m. today.

Tennis

Saints edge Bruins

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne slipped past Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Wilson Beddingfield 5-4 on Tuesday.

Benny Segura, Cameron Thames, Brandon Outlaw and Alan Nuniz each picked up singles wins for the Saints.

The doubles team of Chris King-Nuniz was also victorious for Southern Wayne.

The Saints (7-5 overall) visit Kinston on Thursday.

WCS tops FCS

Wayne Christian knocked off Fayetteville Christian 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

Taylor Gray, Christopher Easom, Daniel Glover and Woody Sasser each contributed singles wins for the Eagles.

The doubles tandems of Gray-Easom and Glover-Sasser were also victorious.

Wayne Christian (4-1 overall) plays host to Wayne Country Day at Wayne Community College on Monday.

Warriors cruise

Eastern Wayne sailed past Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent Wilson Hunt 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon in New Hope.

Russell Turner, Eric Barnes, Mike Barnette, Marcos Machado, Joe DiCesare and Will Kastner each earned singles victories for the Warriors.

The doubles teams of Turner-Machado, Barnes-Barnette and DiCesare-Kastner were also winners.

Eastern Wayne (9-2 overall, 6-1 ECC) entertains Wilson Beddingfield on Thursday.

Gators beaten

SEVEN SPRINGS -- The No. 1 tandem of Daniel Richter-Colby Strickland claimed Spring Creek's lone point in an 8-1 loss to Carolina 1-A Conference foe North Johnston on Tuesday afternoon.

Richter-Strickland edged the Panthers' Johnathan Cooper-Grey Bruton 9-8 (6) on the Gators' courts.

Weather permitting, Spring Creek (0-2 overall, 0-1 CC) entertains Ayden-Grifton today. First serve is 4 p.m.

Golf

Walnut Creek LGA

Novella Zambelli and Joyce Reynolds tied for play of the day during weekly tournament play at Walnut Creek Country Club.

Kathy Woodard captured low gross and Mary Ann Sutton won first net.

Mary Morris earned second gross, while Linda Cannon and Betty Edwards shared low net in the second flight.

Evelyn Rose claimed low putts for the field.

* Baseball: Wayne Christian 11, Fayetteville Christian 5 -- Dante Arthur, Gregory Johnson and Jackson Hayes each had two hits for the Eagles (4-0 overall). Jordan Crouthamel, Chase Darden, Chandler Harrell and Josh Burdett also provided hits. Johnson recorded the win on the mound.

* Softball: Wayne Christian 7, Fayetteville Christian 0 -- Rachel McCollum provided a triple for the Eagles (3-0 overall) and Rachel McCollum added a double. McCollum tossed a complete game allowing only two hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

* Soccer: Eastern Wayne 6, Kinston 0 -- Emily Kaspar and Kelley Riddle each scored twice for the Warriors. Elizabeth Audelo and Hanna Smith also added goals. Amie Bero, Audelo and Smith each contributed an assist.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Eastern Wayne 25, Brogden 0 -- Jeremy Lancaster and Brandon Presson each contributed two hits for the Warriors (5-2 overall). Brandon Presson and Tyler Warren combined to pitch three scoreless innings on the mound.
