WILSON -- State-ranked Charles B. Aycock showed no signs of weakness in a 9-0 pasting of Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Wilson Beddingfield on Monday afternoon.

Blake Vail notched a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 one singles and the Golden Falcons never looked back. Addison Westbrook, Ben Nichols, Dylan Quinn, Rawad Alawar and Rex Rose each earned a singles point for C.B. Aycock.

The tandems of Vail-Quinn, Westbrook-Nichols and R. Alawar-Kareem Alawar each added a victory in doubles play.

Charles B. Aycock (7-1 overall, 6-0) entertains Kinston today.

Warriors prevail

DUDLEY -- Eastern Wayne upended county rival Southern Wayne for the second time this season with an 8-1 decision on the tennis courts at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex on Monday afternoon.

Russell Turner, Eric Barnes, Mike Barnette, Marcos Mochado and Joe DiCesare each earned a point in with their respective wins in singles play.

Brandon Outlaw claimed Southern Wayne's lone victory in singles action.

The duos of Turner-Machado, Barnes-Barnette and DiCesare-Ames swept the doubles matches for the Warriors.

Eastern Wayne (8-2 overall, 5-1 ECC) plays host to Wilson Hunt today.

Eagles soar

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Christian held off a challenge from Faith Christian of Rocky Mount en route to a 5-4, non-conference victory on Monday.

Christopher Easom, Daniel Glover and Woody Sasser each earned a singles point for the Eagles. The duos of Glover-Sasser and Easom-Taylor Gray each won in doubles play.

Wayne Christian entertains Fayetteville Christian today at 4 p.m.

Rams cruise

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central earned a 9-0 sweep of South Central in non-conference tennis action on Monday.

Eric Simmons, Colby Chase, Andrew Harrison, Jason Perry, Hunter Thigpen and Dillon Lee each picked up a singles point.

"This certainly had to be our best performance top to bottom this year," said Rams head coach Brad Sauls. "We had a couple close sets, but I was really pleased with how we closed out matches."

The tandems of Simmons-Harrison, Chase-Perry and Thigpen-Lee each prevailed in doubles play.

Greene Central (9-1 overall) entertains North Lenoir on Wednesday.

Chargers win

Wayne Country Day pulled out a 5-4 victory over Eastern Wayne's junior varsity team on Monday.

Thomas Elmore, Jack Langston and Zach Phillips each earned a win in singles play for the Chargers. The duos of Elmore-Phillips and Miller Gerrard-Douglas Williams each added a point in doubles.

Timothy Parker, Craig Newsome and Sam Ross each grabbed a singles point for the Warriors. The duo of Parker-Steven Taylor claimed the Warriors' only point in doubles action.

Wayne Country Day (2-3 overall) travels to Rosewood on Wednesday.

Baseball

Gators cruise

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Duane Gurganus pitched five hitless innings as Spring Creek bested Carolina 1-A Conference rival Princeton 6-3 on Monday afternoon at "The Swamp."

It was the league opener for both teams.

Spring Creek tallied six runs on just two hits, but benefited from seven walks and five Princeton errors. Corey Howell and Steven Best each tallied one hit in the win. Best drove in two runs.

Patrick Jacobs led the Dawgs' offense with one hit and two RBI.

Princeton plays host to North Duplin on Friday, while Spring Creek (7-3 overall, 1-0 CC) visits Ayden-Grifton.

WCS wins

FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Christian improved to 5-0 in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play with a 7-0 victory over Northwood Temple on Monday.

Dante Arthur led the Eagles at the plate with three hits, including two doubles. Michael Johnson, Travis Thomas and Kyle Harrell each added two hits in the win.

Harrell earned the win on the mound.

Wayne Christian (5-1 overall) will host Cape Fear Christian today.

Saints stopped

WILSON -- Southern Wayne mustered just two hits en route to an 8-0 loss at Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Wilson Hunt on Monday.

A costly error in the second inning allowed two Warrior runs to cross the plate and the Saints never recovered.

Michael Douglas took the hard-luck loss on the mound. Douglas tossed six innings, allowed three earned runs and struck out two batters.

Southern Wayne (5-6 overall, 2-2 ECC) entertains archrival Charles B. Aycock today. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex in Dudley.

Chargers halted

Wayne Country Day never got its bats going en route to an 11-1, non-conference loss to Arendell-Parrott Academy on Monday.

Cody Neal homered for the Chargers. Jack Scott finished 2-for-3 with a double.

Wayne Country Day (3-3 overall) welcome Kerr Vance Academy today at 4 p.m.

Softball

Eagles roll

FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Christian got its offense rolling early and never looked back in a 19-5 rout over Carolina Christian 1-A Conference opponent Northwood Temple on Monday.

Allyson Newsome earned the win in the pitcher's circle by striking out five batters and only allowing two hits. Kayla Kennedy closed the game by retiring the final four batters in order.

Wayne Christian (3-3 overall, 3-1 CCC) entertains Fayetteville Christian today.

Golf

EWHS finishes second

KINSTON -- Wilson Hunt continued to dominate the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference standings with its third first-place finish of the season on Monday afternoon at Falling Creek Country Club.

Hunt carded a four-man total of 331.

Eastern Wayne ended up second at 342. Ryan Lake and Matt Baker each fired an 18-hole round of 84 for the Warriors. Caleb Jones added an 85 and Carson Daly finished with an 89.

Southern Wayne finished fifth as a team with a 397 total. Robert Herring paced the Saints with an 88. Chris Best added a 93 and Kent Moore fired a 105.

Charles B. Aycock did not have enough players to be counted in the team scoring. C.P. Cranford led the Golden Falcon contingent with a round of 77. Chase Parnell added a 94.

JV sports

* Soccer: Eastern Wayne 1, C.B. Aycock 1 -- Kelley Riddle scored the game tying goal for Eastern Wayne in the 24th minute and the Warriors held on for a draw against county rival Charles B. Aycock at Little Big Horn on Monday. Eastern Wayne plays host to Kinston tonight.

* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 9, Eastern Wayne 1 -- Collin DuBose delivered a two-run home run as Charles B. Aycock bested Eastern Wayne on Monday. Jeff Barbour tallied two hits and three RBI in the win. Cameron Taylor added two hits and one run scored. The Golden Falcons (8-1 overall) entertain Southern Wayne today.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Norwayne 4, Grantham 2 -- Dustin Price, Logan Runyon and Adam Pate combined to throw a two-hitter as Norwayne improved to 6-0 overall. Dillon Hinnant, Jordan Lee, Logan Brown and Hunter Jones each tallied one hit for the Cobras. Norwayne entertains Brogden on Monday.

* Baseball: Spring Creek 18, Brogden 7 -- Wyatt Oker notched four hits as Spring Creek bested Brogden. Wyatt Janning, Justin Price and James Phipps each added two hits in the victory.

* Softball: Eastern Wayne 21, Brogden 1 -- Erika Lee delivered a grand slam as Eastern Wayne topped Brogden on Monday. Diamond Parks and Bailee Hughes each added a hit for the Warriors (4-2 overall). Hughes pitched all three innings to earn the mound win.
