LaGRANGE -- Eastern Wayne picked up a non-conference win with a 9-8 decision over perennial 2-A baseball power North Lenoir on Wednesday night.

The Warriors belted three home runs during their 16-hit outing.

Cambric Moye blasted two home runs and tallied three RBI for Eastern Wayne. John Wooten added three hits including a home run and two RBI. Walker Gourley notched three hits and drove in one run.

Wooten earned the pitching win.

Mike Wetherington led the Hawks offensively with two hits, including a home run and three RBI. Grayson Phillips added a double and two RBI. Tyler Potter finished 4-for-4 on the night.

North Lenoir (5-3 overall) entertains Spring Creek today. Eastern Wayne (7-0 overall) welcomes Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference archrival Charles B. Aycock on Friday.

Eagles soar

NEWTON GROVE -- Rosewood's offense awoke in the late innings in a 9-5, comeback victory over Hobbton.

Matt Neal earned the mound win for the Eagles. The hard-throwing, right-hander inherited two base runners in the fourth inning, but escaped the jam and promptly retired the next nine Wildcats.

Cody Richards paced the Eagles' offense with three hits and two RBI. Will Beasley finished 2-for-2 with a double, while James McNeill tallied two hits and two RBI.

Rosewood (6-1 overall) entertains Goldsboro on Friday.

Chargers prevail

WILSON -- Wayne Country Day pounded out 10 hits en route to a 10-7 victory over Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference foe Greenfield on Wednesday afternoon.

Cameron Ford led the Chargers at the plate with three hits and three RBI. Jack Scott reached base twice and tallied three RBI. Cole Davis and Tanner Pate each notched two hits respectively.

Ford tossed a complete game and struck out four to earn the win on the mound for WCDS.

Wayne Country Day (1-1 CPIC) entertains Community Christian on Friday.

Saints stopped

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central starter Jasper Jones held Southern Wayne to just three hits as the Rams pulled off a 4-2, non-conference win at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.

Jones pitched six innings, allowed three hits and two runs for the Rams. Derek Grant notched the save with a sterling inning of relief.

Zach Chase led the Rams with one hit and two RBI. Jones added one hit and one RBI.

Greene Central (5-3 overall) travels to Charles B. Aycock today.

Softball

CBA cruises

ERWIN -- Charles B. Aycock jumped in front early and cruised past Erwin Triton 10-4 on Wednesday evening.

Brooke Bell led the Golden Falcons' offense with three hits and three RBI. Cynthia Burroughs added two hits and one RBI. Autumn Pittman tallied two hits and scored two runs.

Burroughs pitched a complete game in the pitcher's circle for C.B. Aycock. The hard-throwing senior allowed five hits and struck out eight batters.

Charles B. Aycock (9-1 overall) travels to Eastern Wayne on Friday.

Eagles battle back

NEWTON GROVE -- Rosewood used a four-run, seventh-inning uprising to cap a 6-3, come-from-behind victory over Hobbton on Wednesday.

Kayla Ormond paced the Eagles at the plate with three hits and four RBI. Caitlin Armer added two hits.

Haile Meadows recorded the win in the pitcher's circle. The senior right-hander allowed six hits and struck out seven batters.

Rosewood (4-2 overall) welcomes county foe Goldsboro on Friday.

Saints blank Vikings

DUDLEY -- Lauren Darden recorded 17 strikeouts as Southern Wayne shutout Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Kinston 5-0 on Tuesday.

Christina Williams contributed two hits. Darian Edwards and Sarah Nelson each had a pair of RBI.

Madison Davis, Darden, Tara Hirsch and Jordan Core each provided a hit.

Rams edge AG

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central plated the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning and bested visiting Ayden-Grifton 4-3 on Wednesday night.

Shanna Parker and Megan Lovett led the Rams at the plate with one hit and one RBI apiece.

Liz Webb pitched the final four innings to earn the mound win.

Greene Central (3-5 overall) begins Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play Tuesday at North Pitt.

Rebels win

CALYPSO -- North Duplin held off a late charge from visiting Wallace-Rose Hill and seized a 7-5, non-conference victory over Wallace-Rose Hill.

Skylar McCarty led the Rebels' offense with two hits and one RBI. Tearra Ammons added a triple, while Angelica Favela doubled in the victory.

Ansley Hill worked five innings for the pitching win. McCarty tossed the final two innings for the save.

North Duplin (3-5 overall) is the guest of Wallace-Rose Hill next Wednesday.

Tennis

Warriors defeated

Eastern Wayne never found its rhythm in a 7-2, non-conference loss to New Bern on Wednesday afternoon.

Russell Turner notched the Warriors' lone win in singles action.

The duo of Eric Barnes-Mike Barnette added a victory in doubles play.

Eastern Wayne (7-2 overall) travels to Southern Wayne today.

JV sports

* Tennis: Eastern Wayne 8, Greene Central 1 -- Michael Ames, Timothy Parker, Steven Taylor, Sanjeev Srikantha, Seth Taylor and Cole Newsome each earned singles wins for the Warriors (2-0 overall). The doubles teams of Ames-Srikantha and Parker-Steven Taylor were also victorious.

* Baseball: Southern Wayne 8, Greene Central 7 -- Jeremy Taylor picked up the mound win as Southern Wayne held off Greene Central on Wednesday. Taylor Brock finished 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles. Landon Elmore and Kyle McLawhorn each recorded two hits respectively for the Rams. Greene Central will host Rosewood on Friday.

* Baseball: North Lenoir 5, Eastern Wayne 4 -- Spencer Bass tossed a complete game on the mound and delivered a home run for the Hawks. Greg Simms led the Warriors' attack with two hits and three runs scored. Jake May and Zach Mozingo added one hit apiece. Eastern Wayne dropped to 4-1 overall this season.

Middle schools

* Soccer: Spring Creek 5, Grantham 1 -- Alyssa Boria recorded a hat trick (three goals) as the Gators (1-3 overall) claimed their first win of the season. Lindsay Justice and Grecia Aguirre each tallied one goal apiece.

* Soccer: Eastern Wayne 1, Greenwood 1 -- Sabrina Pralle scored the Warriors' lone goal against the T-Birds. Elizabeth Amon tallied Greenwood's goal off an assist from Ann Reed Hulse.

* Softball: Princeton 24, Benson 4 -- Amber Hill and Katelyn Edwards led Princeton's offensive explosion with three hits each. Tanner Porthress, Katie Bennett, Hanna Holland, Savanna Massengill and Jasmine Bombard each added two hits in the win. Logan Jones recorded six strikeouts and earned the pitching win.
