Trojan spikers, Trojan softball split weekend affairs

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Christiaan Rombaut recorded 17 kills as Mount Olive College dropped a 30-26, 30-27, 28-30, 20-30, 14-16 loss to East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University on Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans (10-6 overall) started the weekend with a five-set triumph over Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. First-year setter Alex Hoekstra recorded 66 assists, which tied him for the second-highest single-match total in school history.

Rombault notched 18 kills and eight digs in the 30-20, 27-30, 29-31, 34-32, 15-12 victory. Jose Lanier added 18 kills, eight blocks and three service aces. Pedro Penate delivered 17 kills and eight digs.

Noel Garcia supplied 16 kills and eight digs. Libero Felix Reimundo contributed 15 digs.

Mount Olive returns to action Saturday at Penn State, the reigning NCAA national champion.

Softball

MOUNT OLIVE -- Katie Nalley collected two RBI as Mount Olive upended Limestone (S.C.) University 2-1 in the second game of their Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader Friday.

Limestone took the opener 3-1.

Nalley notched an RBI in the second and fourth innings of the nightcap. The Trojans (15-12-1 overall) improved to 6-2 against league opposition this season.

Kristin Ware (5-4) earned the mound win in relief of starter Sasha Snyder. Ware retired 12 of 16 batters during one stretch before yielding a sixth-inning, two-out RBI double.

The Saints' Emily Wallace threw a two-hitter and posted 10 strikeouts in game one. The Trojans denied Wallace's no-hit bid on Kat Cahoon's fourth-inning triple. Cahoon scored on Kelly Minshew's RBI groundout.

MOC didn't get another base runner until the seventh inning.
