Narron's homer sparks CBA in 1st inning

KINSTON -- Charles B. Aycock's offense erupted for the second consecutive day as the Golden Falcons churned out 12 hits in a 15-4 romp over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Kinston on Friday.

Twenty-four hours earlier, the Golden Falcons claimed a 12-run decision over league foe Wilson Beddingfield.

Will Edgerton drew a lead-off walk and advanced to third on Tyler Ruffin's single. Three pitches later, Connor Narron set the tone for the contest with a three-run blast that easily cleared the center-field fence.

"We came out and started strong right out of the gate tonight," said C.B. Aycock head coach Charles Davis. "Connor got a pitch in a 3-0 count that he could handle and he didn't miss it."

The Golden Falcons broke the game open in the top of the fourth.

Edgerton reached on a error and advanced into scoring position when Ruffin reached on a second Viking miscue. Narron drew a walk to load the bases.

Johnathon Taylor delivered a two-run single and Nicholas McGee did the same two batters later.

"I thought our guys had a good approach at the plate," said Davis. "They made some good swings with runners on base, and that's what it takes to win on the road."

Trailing 8-1, the Vikings battled back in the fifth inning.

With two outs, Blake Herring and Josh Lovick notched back-to-back singles. Landon DeBruhl plated the duo with a stand-up triple into the gap in right centerfield.

"You have to give Kinston a lot of credit, they never quit," said Davis. "This can be a tough place to get a win. It's a good atmosphere and their kids play hard."

The Golden Falcons delivered the knockout blow during a three-run sixth inning.

Ruffin led off with a double and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Narron and Taylor followed with consecutive walks. Adron Hollowell plated one run with a productive ground ball and Jordan Quinn delivered an RBI single.

Eric Dubose tossed six innings on the mound to earn the win. The tall left-hander allowed three runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out five.

C.B. Aycock (7-1 overall, 2-0 ECC) carries a seven-game win streak into Tuesday's home game against Wilson Hunt. Kinston fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.

"Every conference win is important, but to get a win on the road is that much bigger," said Davis. "We know we have to play these games one at a time with Hunt being next up, so that is where our focus is now."
