HIGH POINT -- Mount Olive College infielder Airlon Vinson, who batted .636 in three games last week, has been selected the Conference Carolinas baseball player of the week.

Vinson, a redshirt junior first baseman, reached base nine times in 13 plate appearances. He collected three hits and two RBI in a 17-15 victory over Post (Conn.) University, and added three hits and three RBI against No. 11-ranked Francis Marion (S.C.) University.

A JUCO transfer from Lenoir Community College, Vinson has the sixth-highest batting average in Conference Carolinas play this season. He has hit safely in eight consecutive games, including Tuesday's non-conference win over Chowan.

The Trojans (15-12 overall) entertain Chowan today and welcome Shepherd (W. Va.) University for a three-game series this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is noon.

Snyder honored

HIGH POINT -- JUCO transfer Sasha Snyder threw just 55 pitches in a complete-game shutout over Lees-McRae and has been named the Conference Carolinas softball pitcher of the week.

Snyder is the second Mount Olive player to win the award this season.

The junior from California retired the Bobcats in order on 17 pitches in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Just one LMC batter reached second base and Snyder retired 12 of the final 13 batters she faced.

Snyder (3-2) is 2-0 with a 0.70 earned run average in two appearances on the Trojans' diamond this season.

Mount Olive (12-11-1 overall) travels to Belmont Abbey today and returns home Friday for a doubleheader against Limestone (S.C.) University. The Trojans visit defending Conference Carolinas champion Pfeiffer University on Sunday.
