MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College sophomore Tyler Smith swatted his first-ever collegiate grand slam in the first inning against Post (Conn.) University on Monday afternoon.

But the Trojans needed more offense.

Kyle Hinrichs and Jonathan Smith broke a fifth-inning tie with back-to-back, two-RBI doubles as No. 22-ranked Mount Olive claimed a wild, 17-15 non-conference victory on the Scarborough Field diamond.

The teams combined for 36 hits in unseasonably warm and breezy conditions.

Eight of nine MOC starters contributed at least one hit. Smith came within a triple of completing the cycle during his four-hit, four-RBI performance. Rich Racobaldo supplied four hits.

Dylan Holton delivered four RBI.

The Trojans pounded out 10 extra-base hits, including six doubles.

Mount Olive used five pitchers -- Sean Lydon, T.J. Hinson, David Combs, Paul Novicki and Kyle Jones. Combs, a former Southern Wayne standout, earned his first career victory in a Trojan uniform.

The Trojans continue their 10-game homestand with a doubleheader Wednesday against Francis Marion (S.C.) University. First pitch is 2 p.m.
