Defending champions eliminate WCDS boys

CHARLOTTE -- Division I recruit Reco McCarter pumped in 17 points as Wayne Country Day fell to defending state champion Word of God 71-50 in the quarterfinals of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A men's basketball playoffs Thursday evening.
Floronta Wynn added 15 points for the sixth-seeded Chargers, who concluded regular-season play 21-13 overall.
Montel Baines led three Holy Rams players in double figures with 16 points. John Walls and C.J. Leslie contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively.
