CHARLOTTE -- Brittany Miller blocked a 3-point attempt at the buzzer and Mount Olive escaped with a 61-59 victory over Queens in a Conference Carolinas women's basketball game Tuesday evening.
Tomeka Prichard's jump shot with 22 seconds left in regulation gave the regionally-ranked Trojans a three-point advantage. The senior forward buried the pivotal basket with less than 10 seconds on the shot clock.
"I felt like I got a good look and was able to get a good shot off," said Prichard, who is the school's all-time leading scorer. "I'm glad I was able to knock it down."
The Royals pulled within 61-59 on Erin Goldner's free throw with 2.8 seconds to go. Goldner intentionally missed the second charity attempt and MOC lost the rebound out of bounds.
Queens put the ball in play and Miller blocked Ashley McGuirt's 3-point attempt to preserve the road win.
Prichard pumped in a game-high 20 points for Mount Olive, which improved 21-5 overall and 17-4 against league opposition this season. The Trojans snapped a two-game skid and visit archrival Barton for a winner-take-all game Thursday. The victor earns the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament and homecourt advantage.
"We were kind of down after the two losses last week," said Prichard. "But we knew we had to regroup. This was a big win on the road against a very good team."
JUCO transfer Jasmine Whitby finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Point guard Shequanta McGee added 12 points.
Mount Olive was 13-of-14 from the free throw line.
