WINGATE -- Robbin Kennedy delivered a game-tying, seventh-inning RBI single as Mount Olive battled Wingate University to a 1-1 deadlock in the second game of a non-conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs won the opener 3-2.
In the nightcap, the teams battled to a scoreless tie through five innings.
Wingate scored in the sixth and Mount Olive (4-3-1 overall) answered in the seventh. Kelly Minshew drew a lead-off walk, advanced to second on a bunt and scored on Kennedy's base knock. Kennedy was named the Conference Carolinas player of the week on Tuesday.
Bulldog hurler Brittany Blankenship avoided further trouble with a groundout and inning-ending strikeout. MOC freshman right-hander Kristin Ware threw a complete-game, four-hitter and logged six strikeouts.
Ware earned conference pitcher of the week accolades.
Wingate's Heather Winchester emerged the offensive leader in the opener with three hits and an RBI. Senior third baseman Hallie Pettigrew and sophomore first baseman Leyila Myers (RBI) added two hits apiece.
Minshew paced the Trojans with a double and an RBI. The former Wilson Beddingfield standout scored in the fourth inning on a Bulldog error and added an RBI sacrifice flyout in the seventh inning.
Kennedy batted 2-for-3.
Mount Olive, which is 2-3-1 in road games this season, returns to action Thursday at in-state foe Chowan.
