Anderson, Mount Olive trade wins in double-dip

ANDERSON, S.C. -- B.J. Dail tossed a complete-game seven-inning two-hitter as nationally seventh-ranked Mount Olive salvaged a split with a 9-1 victory over Anderson in game two of a Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader Saturday at Anderson, S.C.
Jesse Lancaster hit a two-run double in the top of the sixth and Kevin Kearney's two-run single highlighted a five-run seventh inning as the Trojans (10-5, 3-2 Conference Carolinas) scored eight runs in the final two innings to break away from a 1-1 tie.
Dail (3-0) retired the side in order in the first and second innings and took a no-hitter into the fourth before giving up a leadoff single.
He retired the side in order in the fifth and sixth innings and stopped a one-out rally in the seventh with back-to-back strikeouts to end the game. Dail struck out four and walked one.
Kearney had three of the Trojans' 12 hits, while Lancaster, Jackson Massey and Rich Racobaldo had two hits apiece.
Anderson (9-4, 4-1) took the opener 12-5 as Matt Hill homered twice for Anderson. Alex Vertcnik belted a solo home run for Mount Olive.
The two teams conclude their three-game series with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. Mount Olive has won 19 consecutive regular season conference series, dating back to 2006.
The Trojans return home next weekend for a three-game series with conference opponent St. Andrews. The series begins with a doubleheader at noon next Saturday and concludes with a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
