AYDEN -- Princeton never got its offense in gear and eventually fell 69-34 to North Johnston in the semifinals of the Carolina 1-A Conference boys' basketball tournament Wednesday evening.

David Gurganus led the Bulldogs attack with 13 points. No other player made more than one field goal in the contest. Andre Nixon pulled down nine rebounds to go along with three points.

North Johnston was paced by Justin Price's 12-point outing. Bryan Williams added 10 points.

Princeton (10-16 overall) returns to action next week in the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.

Girls' basketball

Gators bounced

AYDEN -- Spring Creek gave top-seeded North Johnston all it could handle in their Carolina 1-A Conference semifinal-round game Wednesday evening.

The Panthers were just too strong in a 59-51 victory.

Norma Valentin led the Gators' attack with a double-double -- 18 points, 16 rebounds. Melanique Deveaux added 16 points and 10 assists. Richelle Butler chipped in four points and six rebounds.

"I am extremely proud of my girls this season," said SCHS head coach Amanda Ramfjord. "We gave all we could against the number one team in the conference."

The Gators (5-13 overall) make their first-ever NCHSAA playoff appearance in school history next week.

Rams defeated

LA GRANGE -- Greene Central came up just short in the final minutes against Farmville Central on Wednesday night in the semifinal round of the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference tournament.

The second-seeded Jaguars defeated the Rams 56-46 to advance to Friday's championship game at Goldsboro.

T.T. Pettaway led the Greene Central offense with 13 points. Shonice Pettaway added 10 markers.

The Rams (11-14) will take on North Pitt on Friday to determine who is the higher seed in the NCHSAA playoffs.
