WILSON -- Jesse Lancaster swatted a home run and supplied four RBIs as No. 6-ranked Mount Olive dumped archrival Barton 8-2 on the Conference Carolinas baseball scene Sunday afternoon.
Lancaster, a junior outfielder, batted 4-for-5 as the Trojans claimed two of three wins against the Bulldogs in the conference opener for both teams. Mount Olive (7-4 overall, 2-1 CC) has won 19 consecutive series against league opposition since 2007.
North Carolina transfer B.J. Dail yielded two runs on four hits in a six-inning stint. The right-hander retired 11 consecutive batters through three-plus innings and logged five strikeouts.
Pat Ball provided three innings of one-hit, three-strikeout relief for the save.
Leading 3-2 after six innings, Lancaster delivered in the seventh. Dylan Holton singled and Alex Vertcnik doubled before Lancaster slapped a 3-0 pitch over the center field fence at Nixon Field. It was Lancaster's second home run of the season.
Lancaster added a two-RBI double in the ninth and finished with a career-high four stolen bases. The Trojans swiped eight bases against three Barton hurlers, including starter Hunter Meekins, who lost his first decision of the season.
Mount Olive owned a 10-5 edge in hits.
The Trojans return home Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Elizabeth City State University. First pitch is 2 p.m. on the Scarborough Field diamond.
