Wayne Christian placed five different scorers in double figures and advanced to the second round of the Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference tournament with a 77-55 victory over Norlina Christian on Thursday evening.

Colton Woods and Taylor Johnson scored 18 points apiece for the Eagles. Kyle Harrell finished with 11 points, while Bradley Yelverton and Justin Brathwaite each had 10.

Wayne Christian (8-13 overall) continues tournament play today at Cresset Christian.

Warriors defeated

Undermanned and overmatched.

Thin on the bench to due disciplinary problems, Eastern Wayne had a fighting chance as it trailed Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference leading Kinston 41-32 at the half.

The Vikings opened the third quarter with a 13-0 run and dominated the rest of the way in an 81-55 rout on Thursday night.

"We just didn't answer," said Warriors head coach Marvin Bowman. "If we could have came out and kept it close I think the deficit could have been a lot better."

Jeneri Cyrus scored a game-high 19 points for Eastern Wayne (6-17 overall, 4-6 ECC). Will White pitched in 12.

Marquez Jones paced Kinston with 16 points and Victor Holloway provided 15. With his future college head coach Roy Williams in attendance, University of North Carolina recruit Reggie Bullock scored 12 points on a 6-for-17 shooting performance, that included an 0-for-6 night from beyond the arc.

Girls' basketball

Saints roll

PIKEVILLE -- Southern Wayne held county rival Charles B. Aycock to just one field goal in the first half and claimed a 55-33 victory in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action Thursday evening.

The Saints overcame early foul trouble that helped the Golden Falcons stay within striking distance. C.B. Aycock scored 13 of its 15 first-half points at the free throw line.

Southern Wayne (10-14 overall, 4-6 ECC) put the game away in the third quarter behind some hot shooting by guard Lynnesha Leonard, who scored eight of her game-high 21 points in the period.

Clarice Sherard added eight points for the Saints, while teammate Octavia Lee finished with seven.

C.B. Aycock (4-20, 1-9 ECC) was led by Kendra Speight's 12-point effort. Camille Williams added 11 points.

The game marked the final home contest for Aycock seniors Williams, Stephanie Orosco, Patrice Pittman and Paige Garrett.

Faith advances

Faith Christian advanced to the N.C. Christian Schools Athletic Association Coastal Region 2-A semifinals with a 54-28 victory over visiting Cornerstone Christian on Thursday night.

Lindsey Godwin led the Conquerors with 13 points and Charity Spencer finished with 11 points. Alyssa Hill provided 10 points, 11 rebounds and five assists and Kaitlyn Floars had six points.

Jessica Boyce scored 13 points for Cornerstone.

Faith (11-6 overall) faces Trinity Christian at 3 p.m. today at Falls Road Baptist in Rocky Mount. Today's winner advances to Saturday's regional finals. Faith's boys are in action today at 1 p.m. today at Falls Road against Neuse Christian with the winner moving on to Saturday's regional championship.

JV sports

* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 78, North Lenoir 63 -- Jarran Reed sizzled the nets for a game-high 20 points and the Cougars secured second place in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play. Robert Kornegay and Mike Sawyer collected 12 points apiece for Goldsboro. Mike Sykes provided 10 points. Josh Poole and Devonta Montgomery emerged the Hawks' top scorers with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Goldsboro (16-5, 7-2 EPC) entertains regular-season champion Farmville Central today, while North Lenoir (7-14, 1-8) visits Greene Central.

* Boys' basketball: C.B. Aycock 54, Southern Wayne 45 -- Shepard Whitfield led the Golden Falcons (8-14 overall, 2-8 ECC) with 19 points. Tony Gardner added 12 points and nine rebounds and Tauris Wooten pitched in eight points and 10 boards.

* Girls' basketball: Eastern Wayne 55, Kinston 28 -- Brittany Scurlock scored 11 points for the Warriors (10-8 overall, 5-5 ECC) and Jenna Martin provided nine. Emily Kaspar and Jevante Pina each scored eight points and Amber Miller had six.

Middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Cape Fear Christian 46, Wayne Christian 23 -- Gregory Johnson scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Eagles came up short in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament championship game. Dylan Smith chipped in nine points.
