Top-ranked Wayne Country Day got the message loud and clear during an early fourth-quarter timeout.

The Chargers watched their 17-point lead dwindle to 11 points in less than three minutes and head coach Eric Perry had seen enough. Wayne Country Day responded with a 12-5 run and finished off Wayne Christian 52-34 in non-conference action Monday evening.

Brooke Norris led the Chargers (19-2 overall) with a game-high 17 points. Senior center Bridgette Briggs provided 16 points and point guard Catherine Ford added 13.

Kayla Kennedy paced the Eagles with 11 points, three steals and four rebounds. Jennifer Price contributed six points, six rebounds and two steals.

Julia Oden provided five points, seven rebounds, six steals and two assists. Hanna Kaler (four points) pulled down a team-high nine boards, while Devan Isenhower chipped in four points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

Wayne Country Day entertains Greenfield on Friday.

Wayne Christian (13-6) plays host to Cresset Christian in the opening round of the Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference tournament.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 32, Wayne Country Day 12 -- Brooke Barfield paced the Eagles with 13 points and five steals in a victory over county rival Wayne Country Day. Courtney Barrow added seven points and Haley Greenwood finished with six points. Brittney O'Hara pulled down 13 rebounds. Kaylee Wallace grabbed nine rebounds. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 13-2 record.
