PRINCETON -- Brittany Baker's fourth-quarter steal and go-ahead layup helped Princeton seize a come-from-behind 48-40 victory over Spring Creek on the Carolina 1-A Conference girls' basketball scene.

The Bulldawgs used a game-ending 14-2 run to earn a regular-season split against the Gators. Spring Creek missed its final 11 shots from the floor and shot a miserable 11-of-36 at the free throw line for the game.

"That kind of shooting is not going to win us any ballgames," said Spring Creek coach Mandy Ramfjord of the free throw effort. "It's no excuse, but we were tired this week with (playing) three games because of the snow, except Princeton.

"We didn't play very good team ball, but that doesn't mean that we're not a team."

Spring Creek led 33-32 after three quarters and extended its advantage to 38-34 on Melanique DeVeaux's drive underneath the basket. Princeton reeled off 12 consecutive points, including Baker's go-ahead shot with 3:30 left in regulation.

Amber Wood, Ashley Braswell and Rebecca Harlan also buried baskets during the decisive run for the Bulldawgs. Baker finished with 14 points, while Braswell provided 11 points. Harlan collected eight points and Tylan George contributed seven.

DeVeaux led all scorers with 17 points. She pulled down nine rebounds and dished out three assists. Shaquita Brooks added five points and 13 rebounds, while Richelle Butler chipped in four points and eight rebounds.

"We really didn't work together," said Ramfjord, whose team committed 29 turnovers. "We either overthrew it or underthrew it, or didn't step to the ball. Fundamentals is what got us here, but we really just didn't show it (tonight)."

The teams wore pink shoestrings in memory of the late Kay Yow, who passed away last week after a battle against cancer. The Princeton players also wore pink ribbons on their uniforms.
