Eastern Wayne jumped out to an early lead and kept its offensive momentum throughout a 72-54 win over Eastern Carolina 3-A conference rival Southern Wayne on Friday.

The Warriors scored 20 first-quarter points on the strength of a strong defense that forced 10 Saint turnovers.

Eastern Wayne was led by Tiarra McIntyre's 24 points. The talented guard finished with four field goals from beyond the arc. Jasmine Middleton added 18 points for Eastern Wayne. Shantae Boseman rounded out the Warriors in double figures with 11 points.

Kayla Powell led Southern Wayne with 14 points and nine rebounds despite battling foul trouble for most of the game. Lynnesha Leonard added 11 points and eight boards. Clarice Sherrard deposited nine points.

Southern Wayne (8-12, 2-4 ECC) will host Beddingfield, while Eastern Wayne (6-11, 2-4) entertains Hunt on Tuesday.

Cougars cruise

Ki'Ana Williams poured in 23 points and Akeyanna Whitlor added 18 as Goldsboro rolled past Tarboro 66-22 on Friday evening.

The Cougars led 35-13 at the half and never looked back as the Vikings failed to score more than eight points in a quarter. Williams scored 12 of her 23 in the second quarter.

The victory put Goldsboro in first place in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference. The Cougars host North Pitt on Tuesday.

Eagles dominate

Wayne Christian bltzed Community Christian from the opening whistle en route to a 63-38 victory on Friday night.

Kayla Kennedy paced the Eagles' attck with 17 points on a perfect night from the field that included five 3-pointers. Hanna Kaler added 14 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Devan Isenhower scored eight points and grabbed 11 boards.

Wayne Christian (11-4, 6-3 CCC) will host Northwood Temple on Tuesday.

Faith prevails

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Faith Christian overcame and early deficit and overwhelmed Gateway Christian 41-25 on Firday night. The win extended the Conquerors streak to six victories in a row.

Alyssa Hill finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Conquerors. Lindsey Godwin added 11 points. Madison Caudle pulled down 10 rebounds.

Faith (9-5) will travel to Trinity Christian on Tuesday.

Rams stumble

FARMVILLE -- Greene Central never found its offensive rythm in a 58-37 Eastern Plains 2-A conference loss to Farmville Central on Friday.

Shanice Pettaway led the Rams with 11 points. Dominique Graham added 10 points in the loss.

Greene Central (8-11, 2-4 EPC) will host Tarboro on Tuesday.

Boys' basketball

Chargers dominate

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day pummled Faith of Rocky Mount from the opening tip and raced to a 76-47 victory on Friday night.

Reco McCarter delivered a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds. Josh Gregory added 17 points and 10 boards. Hil Tanner chipped in 12 points and Floronta Wynn added 10 points.

The Chargers will be back in action tonight at Kerr-Vance Academy.

Rebels fall

CALYPSO -- North Duplin got off to a slow start and never recovered en route to a 73-23 loss to Carolina 1-A conference rival North Johnston on Friday.

Quentin Graham and Marcus Kornegay each scored six points for the Rebels. Shane Deaver added four points.

Chris Vick paced the victors with 15 points.

North Duplin (0-14, 0-6 CC) will host Princeton on Tuesday.

Eagles falter

Foul trouble plagued Wayne Christian throughout its 69-57 loss to Community Christian on Friday.

Three of the Eagles starters fouled out of the contest.

Colton Woods and Kyle Harrell each scored 14 points respectively for Wayne Christian. Justin Brathwaite added 10 points and 14 rebounds. Luke Howell finished with nine points.

Wayne Christian (6-11, 5-6 CCC) entertains Northwood Temple on Tuesday.

Falcons win

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock earned its first Eastern Carolina 3-A conference victory of the season by beating Beddingfield 68-58 on Friday.

Molonza Hayes led the Golden Falcon outburst with 17 points. Jonathan Williams added 16 points and Brandon Winford notched 13 points. Isaac Ryals rounded out the double-digit scorers for C.B. Aycock with 10 points.

Charles B. Aycock (12-8, 1-5 ECC) will host Kinston on Tuesday.

Rosewood falls

AYDEN -- Ayden Grifton used some hot shooting and early pressure defense to topple Carolina 1-A conference rival Rosewood 73-53 on Friday.

Cody Harris led the Eagles with 17 points. Jacquez Raynor contributed 10 points.

Rosewood (4-12, 1-4 CC) will host North Johnston on Tuesday.

JV sports

* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 70, Tarboro 45 -- Adam Hobbs paced the Cougars with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jerran Reid chipped in 11 points and 14 boards. Michael Sykes and Octavius Austin each added nine points.

* Boys' basketball: Beddingfield 61, C.B. Aycock 48 -- Shepherd Whitfield led the Golden Falcons with 12 points. Marquis Bryant added nine points.

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 58, Faith of Rocky Mount 55 -- Hil Tanner scored 20 points and led the Chargers to victory. Brnadon McCarter added 19 points. Wayne Country Day is 8-2.

Middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 46, Faith Rocky Mount 16 -- Cody Neal paced the Chargers with 12 points. Zach Brewer and Luke Bryan each added 10.
