Teams make splash in "Last chance" meet

Charles B. Aycock's girls and Eastern Wayne's boys emerged the top-scoring teams in a season-ending, "last chance" meet in the Goldsboro Family Y pool on Wednesday evening.

The swimmers worked to either qualify or improve their times for the upcoming N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A eastern regional on Feb. 7.

On the boys' side, the Warriors piled up 144 points.

Alexander Robinson recorded top times in the 200 individual medley and 200 free, while teammate Mason Chenier emerged the top finisher in the 50 and 100 free events.

Eric Gross and Matt Moulas placed first in the 500 free and 100 breaststroke, respectively. Teammate Collin Hobbs was the lone 1-meter diver in the meet.

The Warriors also won the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

In girls' competition, Aycock amassed 107 points led by double-doubles from Carrigan Chastain and Bryce Connolly. Chastain touched the wall first in the 100 free and 100 backstroke. Connolly captured first in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Taylor Allen helped the Golden Falcons' cause with a first-place swim in the 200 free, and also participated on the winning 200 free relay.

Eastern Wayne seized the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Meagan MacLee swam on both squads and also ended up first in the 500 free.
