WILSON -- After besting county rival Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday, Eastern Wayne earned its second consecutive win in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference action with a 45-36 decision over Wilson Hunt on Wednesday night.

Will White led the Warriors with 12 points and five rebounds. Lamar Best added eight points and seven assists. Marvin Bowman played steady interior defense and tallied eight points on the offensive end.

"They tried to play a methodical game and slow the ball down," Eastern Wayne head coach Marvin Bowman said. "We were forced to play that style, which is why we didn't score many points, but we played well enough defensively to win."

Eastern Wayne (4-12 overall, 2-3 ECC) entertains archrival Southern Wayne on Friday night.

Game suspended

SEVEN SPRINGS -- A chronic roof leak poured water near center court and forced the suspension of the Rosewood-Spring Creek boys' game on Wednesday.

Eagles forward James Harris collected a loose ball and moved to his left only to find the wet spot and slide out of bounds. After the possession, the referees convened under the leak and sent both teams to their respective benches.

After a short break the decision was made to suspend the game.

No date was set for the contest's completion.

When play resumes the Gators lead 4-3 and the Eagles will be inbounding the ball under their own basket.

Rosewood travels to Ayden-Grifton on Friday, while Spring Creek is the guest of Princeton.

Vikings prevail

KINSTON -- Charles B. Aycock got off to a slow start and never recovered in a 73-59 loss at Kinston on Wednesday.

Khendra Reid led the Golden Falcons attack with 14 points in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference game. Brandon Winford added 13 points and Tyheim Pitt finished with nine.

Marquez Jones' 18-point night paced the Vikings.

C.B. Aycock (11-8 overall, 0-5 ECC) travels to Wilson Beddingfield on Friday.

Rebels defeated

AYDEN -- North Duplin continued its Carolina 1-A conference struggles with an 81-46 loss at Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday night.

The Rebels stayed close until halftime, but a 33-point third quarter by the Chargers sealed the visitors fate.

Devin Oliver and Xavier Lee each scored eight points for North Duplin. Jimmy Smith added seven points.

The Rebels (0-13 overall, 0-5 CC) will play host to North Johnston on Friday.

Girls' basketball

Saints struggle

WILSON -- Southern Wayne struggled to identify open shooters, eliminate turnovers and get stops defensively in a 68-43 loss to Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent Wilson Beddingfield on Wednesday night.

Octavia Lee led the Saints (8-11 overall, 2-3 ECC) with 12 points and Lynnesha Leonard added 10.

Casey Elliot scored 19 points for the Bruins (16-3, 5-0) and Shaniqua Clay provided 13.

Southern Wayne visits Eastern Wayne on Friday.

Falcons rise

KINSTON -- Charles B. Aycock brought defensive intensity from the opening tip and outlasted Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Kinston 39-38 on Wednesday night.

Kendra Speight racked up a career-high 15 points for the Golden Falcons. Courtnei Gilbert added 11 points in the win and grabbed five rebounds. Paige Garrett scored five points.

"We were really proud of the girls defensive effort tonight," said C.B. Aycock head coach Carrie Reynell. "We challenged them to step up and they did. Everyone seemed to be on the same page."

The Golden Falcons (4-15 overall, 1-4 ECC) will travel to Wilson Beddingfield on Friday.

Rams roll

BETHEL -- Greene Central earned a 48-39 win over Eastern Plains 2-A Conference rival North Pitt on Wednesday.

Shanice Pettaway led all scorers with 24 points. Dominique Graham added nine markers for the Rams.

The Rams (8-10 overall, 2-3 EPC) entertain Farmville Central on Friday.

Middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 44, Greenfield 39 -- Cody Neal scored 16 points for the Chargers and Zachary Brewerkirby added 12. Zach Syverson provided eight points. Wayne Country Day (9-1 overall) visits Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Friday.

* Boys' basketball: Greenwood 39, Grantham 30 -- Quaviis Holloman scored 14 points and dished out five assists in the win. Jaelen Johnson added eight points and pulled down 14 rebounds while teammate Jalin Spruill chipped in eight points and four assists. Grantham was paced by nine points from Drake Shaw.
