PRINCETON -- Princeton found its offensive touch early and raced past archrival Rosewood 68-47 in Class 1-A Carolina Conference action on Tuesday night.

Both teams came out of the gate red hot from the field.

Princeton led by as many as nine points in the first half, but Rosewood refused to go away. The Dawgs held a 32-27 advantage at the intermission.

Emotions boiled in the second half. The teams combined for three technical fouls and 25 personal fouls.

A 20-point, third-quarter outburst put the game away for the Bulldogs.

Brittany Baker paced Princeton (10-9 overall, 2-3 Carolina) with 17 points and four rebounds. Nicole Melvin added 13 points and seven boards. Amber Wood and Tiffine Battle each scored seven points.

Rosewood (3-12, 1-3) was led by Christina Bruton's 18-point outing. Paige Babb added eight points and five rebounds. Shantal Johnson chipped in six points and a game-high 11 boards.

Rosewood travels to Spring Creek tonight. The Dawgs will entertain the Gators on Friday night.

Shooting propels EW

Eastern Wayne found its shooting touch and knocked down eight 3-pointers on its way to a 63-36 win over rival Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday evening.

It was the Warriors' first Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference victory of the season. Tiarra McIntyre led Eastern Wayne with a game-high 24 points including three 3-pointers. Lindsey Frederick added 15 points and four 3's of her own.

Courtney Sheeks paced the Golden Falcons with 12 points.

Eastern Wayne (5-11 overall, 1-3 ECC) visits Wilson Hunt tonight and Aycock (3-15, 0-4) travels to Kinston.

Chargers take two

Wayne Country Day remained atop the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference standings with a 62-25 rout over Greenfield on Tuesday evening.

Brooke Norris led the Chargers with 22 points, while Bridgette Briggs added 13. Catherine Ford and Kim Martel scored 10 points apiece.

On Monday, Wayne Country Day turned back Kerr-Vance 45-36.

Briggs scored 17 points, while Ford added 14. Martel chipped in five points.

Wayne Country Day (16-2 overall, 3-0 CPIC) visits Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Friday.

Cougars prevail

FARMVILLE -- Goldsboro held Farmville Central to six third-quarter points to break open a close game and take a 55-45, Eastern Plains 2-A Conference win on Tuesday evening.

Akeyanna Whitler led the Cougars with 16 points and seven rebounds. Ki'Anna Williams finished with 13 points, 10 assists and four steals. Victoria Williams had 11 points and Zeara McDuffie contributed eight points.

Goldsboro (11-7 overall, 3-1 EPC) entertains Tarboro on Friday.

Faith victorious

ROCKY MOUNT -- Faith Christian picked up a 38-23 win at N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A foe Falls Road on Tuesday evening.

Alyssa Hill scored 20 points, pulled down 20 rebounds and had four steals and three assists for the Conquerors. Lindsey Godwin supplied 12 points including 11 in the second half. Kaitlyn Floars grabbed 11 rebounds, while Madison Caudle had nine rebounds and four steals.

Faith (8-5 overall, 7-3 Coastal) visits Gateway Christian in Virginia Beach on Friday.

Hawks stop Rams

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir knocked off Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe Greene Central 53-48 on Tuesday evening.

Shonice Pettaway scored 16 points for the Rams and Tia Jones contributed 12.

Greene Central (7-10 overall, 1-3 EPC) visits North Pitt tonight.

Eagles hang on

Wayne Christian nearly let a 22-6 lead slip away before hanging on for a 51-50 win over visiting Greenville Christian on Tuesday evening.

Greenville Christian had a chance for the win but Cori Thomas' 15-foot shot at the buzzer fell short.

Julia Oden led the Eagles with 19 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Jennifer Price pitched in 11 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and two steals. Hanna Kaler added 10 points and six rebounds.

Wayne Christian (10-4 overall) visits Community Christian on Friday.

Gators halt Rebels

CALYPSO -- Spring Creek earned a 59-39 Carolina 1-A Conference win at North Duplin on Tuesday night.

Richelle Butler scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down six rebounds for the Gators. Shaquita Brooks added 15 points. Melanquie Deveaux had six points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Jessica Jones led North Duplin with 18 points and Tearra Ammons had 10.

Spring Creek (2-8 overall, 2-2 Carolina) plays host to Rosewood today while the Rebels (0-12, 0-4) host Ayden-Grifton.

SW defeated

WILSON -- Wilson Hunt handed Southern Wayne a 64-53 Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference loss on Tuesday evening.

Lynnesha Leonard scored 24 points for the Saints and Kayla Powell added 10 points.

Southern Wayne (8-10 overall, 2-2 ECC) visits Wilson Beddingfield tonight.

Boys' basketball

Conquerors fall short

ROCKY MOUNT -- Faith Christian came up just short in a 50-48 loss at N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A opponent Falls Road on Tuesday night.

Wilson Head paced the Conquerors with 17 points, Eric Powell finished with 12 and Brad Floars had 10. Faith visits Gateway Christian in Virginia Beach on Friday evening.

Saints escape

WILSON -- Dwight Smith knocked down a go-ahead 3-pointer with a little over a minute to play and Southern Wayne escaped Wilson Hunt with a 42-41, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference win on Tuesday night.

Desmond Raiford scored eight points for the Saints and Brandon Anderson contributed eight points and 11 rebounds.

Southern Wayne (13-5 overall, 3-1 ECC) visits Wilson Beddingfield tonight.

Tigers triumph

TEACHEY -- James Kenan erupted for 23 fourth-quarter points and defeated Super Six 1-A rival Wallace-Rose Hill 58-44 on Friday evening.

Dontrill Hyman led the Tigers with 16 points and nine rebounds and Dasmine Smith added 12 points. James Owens had 11 points and Shawon Darden finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

Jags slip by Cougars

FARMVILLE -- Goldsboro missed a pair of key free throws with nine seconds remaining and Farmville Central scored the game-winning basket in the final moments of a 69-68 Eastern Plains 2-A Conference win on Tuesday night.

Rasean Brewington scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Cougars. Tyrelle Jackson provided 24 points and 11 rebounds and Demetrio Irby added 14 points.

Goldsboro (12-6 overall, 3-1 EPC) welcomes Tarboro on Friday.

WCS stumbles

Wayne Christian fell 53-49 to Greenville Christian on Tuesday evening.

Luke Howell led the Eagles with 19 points, Kyle Harrell had 11 and Taylor Johnson added seven. Wayne Christian (6-10, 5-5 CCC) visit Community Christian on Friday.

Greenfield sinks WCDS

WILSON -- No. 1-ranked Greenfield caught fire in the fourth quarter and pulled away from No. 6 Wayne Country Day for a 76-63 win on Tuesday night.

Jeremy Jeffers scored a game-high 24 points for Greenfield.

Floronta Wynn paced the Chargers 21 points and Tim Hobbs and Reco McCarter each added 17. Wayne Country Day (14-9 overall) visits Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Friday.

Gators cruise

CALYPSO -- Melvin Deveaux poured in 18 points and Spring Creek eased past North Duplin 76-40 in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday.

Anthony Green added 10 points for the Gators.

Marcus Kornegay and Blake King led the Rebels with eight and seven points, respectively.

Spring Creek entertains Rosewood today, while North Duplin plays host to Ayden-Grifton.

* Girls' basketball: Faith Christian 27, Falls Road 19 -- Christina Powell led Faith Christian (8-0 overall) with 12 points.

* Girls' basketball: C.B. Aycock 29, Eastern Wayne 24 -- Kelby Dumond scored a team-high seven points for C.B. Aycock. The Golden Falcons visit Kinston tonight.

* Boys' basketball: Farmville Central 58, Goldsboro 57 -- Adan Hobbs scored 16 points for the Cougars. Michael Sawyer chipped in 13 and Xavier Knight added 12.

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Christian 57, Greenville Christian 40 -- Cameron Malinofski led the Eagles with 15 points and four rebounds. Chase King pitched in 13 points and five boards and Chase Darden had 12 points and four rebounds. Wayne Christian (9-5) hosts Cape Fear Christian on Monday.

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 72, Greenfield 40 -- Hil Tanner led the Chargers with 23 points and Josiah Davis pitched in 16. Jordan Perry added 14. Wayne Country Day (7-2) visits Faith of Rock y Mount on Friday.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Country Day 22, Greenfield 20 -- Sarah Best had 17 points, while teammates Mollie McDonald and Anna Rains also contributed in the scoring column. The Chargers improved to 4-4 overall.

Middle schools

* Girls' basketball: Eastern Wayne 43, Spring Creek 27 -- Rajuana Boyette scored 16 points and grabbed 11 points for the Warriors. Elondia Grant provided 10 points and six steals and Divonnie Powell added 10 points and five steals. Eastern Wayne (11-2) concludes its season on Monday when it hosts Norwayne.
