BETHEL -- The Goldsboro High boys' basketball team erupted for 30 fourth-quarter points and rallied past North Pitt 71-66 in Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference action Friday evening.

It was career win No. 199 for first-year Cougar coach Chris Cherry.

Senior Tyrelle Jackson delivered a double-double -- 18 points, 11 rebounds -- as Goldsboro kept pace with North Lenoir at 3-0 in the EPC standings. The teams meet Wednesday at Cougar Gymnasium.

Donald Lewis contributed 16 second-half points for the Cougars. Demetrio Irby pumped in 14 points, while Devonte White and Michael Langston recorded six points apiece.

Goldsboro (12-5 overall) used a steal and layup to start a fourth-quarter 9-0 run. Cherry's team outscored the Panthers (9-6, 0-3) by a 30-17 margin in the final eight minutes of action.

Tigers prevail

WARSAW -- James Kenan overcame a stagnant second quarter and raced past Super Six 1-A conference rival Lakewood 70-58 on Friday night.

The Tigers trailed 31-27 at the intermission after being outscored 21-13 in the second period.

Dontrell Hyman ignited the Tigers' second-half offense with strong interior play. Hyman finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Dasmine Smith added 16 points.

Alex Monk contributed 10 points and 10 assists.

Eagles fly high

SMITHFIELD -- Wayne Christian did not allow the recent cold weather effect its hot shooting and powered past Johnston Christian 68-54 in a Carolina Christian 1-A Conference game Friday evening.

Luke Howell led the Eagles' outburst with 18 points and seven assists. Colton Woods chipped in 17 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor Brathwaite added 15 points.

Wayne Christian (6-8 overall, 5-4 CCC) entertains Cape Fear Christian on Monday.

Dawgs dropped

AYDEN -- In a 24-hour span, Princeton tumbled to the lower half of Carolina 1-A Conference standings with a 65-48 loss at Ayden-Grifton on Friday evening.

The Dawgs (7-11 overall) suffered their second straight league defeat.

Andre Nixon led the Bulldogs with 18 points and seven rebounds. David Gurganus contributed 10 points and five assists, while T.J. Wilson added eight points.

Princeton (7-11 overall, 1-3 Carolina) hosts Rosewood on Tuesday.

Goldsboro triumphs

BETHEL -- Ki'Ana Williams scorched the North Pitt defense for 31 points and led Goldsboro a 58-49 victory on the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference scene Friday evening.

Millicent Kornegay added 10 points for the Cougars, who improved to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Akeyanna Whitlor delivered an eight-point performance.

Goldsboro visits Farmville Central on Tuesday.

Eagles hold off Rebels

Rosewood scored eight unanswered points to open the fourth quarter and held off Carolina 1-A Conference opponent North Duplin for a 33-27 win on Friday evening.

The game was tied at 21-21 entering the final quarter before Kaitlyn Conger's jumper ignited the Eagles 8-0 run.

Skylar McCarty's 3-pointer pulled the Rebels to within 29-25 with less than a minute to play but Shantal Johnson and Paige Babb each sank a pair of free throws to help preserve Rosewood's first conference victory of the season.

Christina Bruton scored a game high 15 points for the Eagles (3-11, 1-2 Carolina) and Johnson and Babb each contributed six.

Jessica Jones and Tearra Ammons each had nine points for North Duplin.

Rosewood visits Princeton on Tuesday and the Rebels entertain Spring Creek.

Conquerors come back

RALEIGH -- Faith Christian broke up a tied game late in the fourth quarter and earned a 36-33 win at Neuse Christian on Friday evening. It was the Conquerors' fourth consecutive victory in N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A region play.

Lindsey Godwin led Faith with 13 points. Alyssa Hill supplied eight points and 10 rebounds. Kaitlyn Floars pulled down 14 rebounds, while Madison Caudle grabbed 11 boards.

The Conquerors (7-5 overall, 6-3 NCCSA Coastal 2-A) visit Falls Road on Tuesday night.

Saints survive

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne used some hot early shooting and some scrappy defense to defeat Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Charles B. Aycock 55-38 on Friday night.

Lynnesha Leonard and Octavia Lee pushed the Saints to a 21-14 advantage after the first quarter. The duo combined for 15 points in the opening eight minutes.

The Golden Falcons battled back before the half on the strength of an opportunistic defensive effort.

Southern Wayne pulled away in the third quarter as Leonard continued her explosive offensive night. Leonard finished with 26 points and seven rebounds in the game.

Lee added 11 points and eight boards. Kayla Powell scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds for the Saints (8-9 overall, 2-1 ECC).

C.B. Aycock (3-14, 0-3 ECC) was paced by Camille Williams' 15 points. Courtney Sheeks added eight points, while Ivy Hartzell chipped in seven points to go along with nine rebounds.

Rams lose thriller

TARBORO -- Greene Central battled Tarboro for four quarters and two overtimes, but suffered a 66-62 loss Eastern Plains 2-A Conference loss on Friday night.

Brittany Jones led the Rams with 15 points. Shonice Pettaway and Dominique Graham each scored 14 points. Jocelyn Conner added 12.

Greene Central (7-9 overall, 1-2 EPC) continues play Tuesday at North Lenoir.

Gators sunk

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek started out strong, but could not sustain the momentum as they fell to North Johnston 65-61 on Friday night in Carolina 1-A conference action.

The Gators jumped out to a 20-16 lead after one period, but foul trouble in the SCHS ranks allowed the Panthers to seize a six point halftime lead.

On the night the Gators were led by Melanique Deveaux's 13 points. Norma Valentin and Shaquita Brooks each added eight points respectively.

Spring Creek (1-8 overall, 1-2 CC) will travel to North Duplin on Tuesday.

JV sports

* Boys' basketball: Southern Wayne 66, C.B. Aycock 38 -- Brayan Johnson led the Saints with 17 points as they upended county rival Charles B. Aycock. Tony Smith added eight points and Vernon Pemberton chipped in seven points. Shepherd Whitfield led the Golden Falcons with 17 points.

* Boys' basketball: Johnston Christian 66, Wayne Christian 55 -- Chase Darden powered the Eagles' offense with 17 points and nine rebounds. Chase King added 16 points and 11 boards. Wayne Christian hosts Greenville Christian on Tuesday.

Middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Christian 38, Johnston Christian 18 -- Baron Wise led all scorers with 13 points and nine rebounds to lead the Eagles. Gregory Johnson finished with 12 points and four borads. Tyler Lacerda rounded out the Eagles' double-figure scoring with 11 points. Dylan Smith grabbed 10 boards.
