PRINCETON -- Patrick Woodard earned his team-leading 23rd individual victory of the season and Princeton edged Ayden-Grifton 36-28 on the wrestling mat Friday evening.

Woodard, a senior 152-pounder, stopped the Chargers' Darius Crumb 4-2.

The Bulldawgs (5-17 overall) triumphed in seven of 13 contested matches and recorded four pins. David Waddell (130 pounds) and Billy Creech (145) put their respective opponents on their backs in the opening period. Teammates Zach Stevens (160) and Matt Canada (189) recorded second- and third-period falls, respectively.

Tyler Baker pulled out an 8-6 decision over Ayden-Grifton's Alex Whitaker at 171 pounds. Heavyweight Logan Rains received the Dawgs' lone forfeit.

Princeton entertains archrival Rosewood on Monday and plays host to county foe North Johnston, the 2009 Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season champion, on Tuesday.

Eagles earn split

KENLY -- North Johnston emerged victorious in all eight contested matches and handed Rosewood a 60-18 loss on Friday evening.

The Eagles collected their points on forfeits.

"Despite what the scoreboard says, we wrestled North Johnston a lot closer this time than a couple of weeks ago," said Rosewood head coach Bill Edmundson.

Rosewood (17-8 overall) allowed just five pins against the Panthers, who dethroned Edmundson's team as the Carolina/Albemarle 1-A Conference dual-team champion two weeks ago.

Senior Joshua Holmes (35-2) had his 25-match win streak snapped with a first-period loss to North Johnston's Glenwood Watson. Edmundson bumped Holmes up to 160 pounds.

"Joshua got caught in a front head lock and lost the match," said Edmundson. "Joshua is such a great kid, though. He understood why we made this move and he needed tougher matches. This loss will not hurt him in the long run."

The Eagles started the tri-meet with a 60-16 thrashing of Clinton.

Holmes, Sammy Ennis, Matt Coley, Jon Rudolph, Jamie Wooten, Cameron Lane and heavyweight Paul Atkinson each recorded a pin against the Darkhorses. Teammates Jacob Roberts and Zach Behrend each notched a major decision, while Dillon Guss supplied a decision.

Chris Lane received Rosewood's lone forfeit.

Aycock sweeps meet

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock continued its late season surge by sweeping a four-team, non-conference meet Friday evening.

The Golden Falcons collected their third victory over Wilson Fike (42-21) this season, and also rolled past fellow 3-A foes SouthWest Edgecombe (57-18) and D.H. Conley (57-21). Aycock extended its win streak to eight matches and entertains county rival Southern Wayne on Tuesday.

Five Golden Falcon grapplers logged 3-0 records -- Justin Farrell, Brandon Bailey, Thomas Podbesek, Brandon Thomas and Bryan Diorio. Thomas bumped between the 171 and 189 pound weight classes.

Zeb Darden finished the meet 2-0. Heavyweight Elvin James Jr., 103-pounder David Romo, Charles Pate and Statton Paris each posted 2-1 records. Kaleb Robinson went 1-1, while Michael Stackle received a forfeit against D.H. Conley.

Aycock improved to 17-7 overall this season.
