Rosewood tuned up for a critical weekend of dual-team competition with a 66-18, non-conference thrashing of Greene Central on Thursday evening.
The Eagles (10-2 overall) return to action Saturday for the Class 1-A Carolina/Albemarle Conference dual championships at North Johnston. Opening-round matches in the six-team, round-robin event start at 9:30 a.m.
"At full strength, North Johnston will be tough to beat," said Rosewood coach Bill Edmundson, whose team upended the Panthers one week ago at the Pilkington Duals. "It will take our best effort to date and some serious strategical matchups to pull off a win."
Rosewood triumphed in nine of 11 individual contested bouts and won all by pin against Greene Central. Senior 145-pounder Joshua Holmes improved to 24-1 overall when he recorded the match's fastest pin -- a 31-second decision over the Rams' Joseph Frazier.
Teammates Zach Behrend (112 pounds), Ariel Nacca (119), Matt Coley (135), Dillion Guss (140), Andrew Sass (152), Jacob Roberts (160), Jon Rudolph (189) and heavyweight Paul Atkinson each earned a pin.
"Dillion put on a clinic ... running four sets of back points in the first period before pinning his opponent," said Edmundson. "It is so good to get back into a routine after the holidays. The team is back together and we seem to be coming together finally.
"Things are looking up."
