PIKEVILLE -- North Lenoir held Charles B. Aycock scoreless in the opening quarter and began 2009 with a 39-27, non-conference varsity girls' basketball victory Friday evening.

Marisa Lanier poured in a game-high 13 points for the Hawks, including a 6-for-6 effort at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Lanier reached double figures for the 10th time this season and is the Hawks' leading scorer with 15.2 points per game.

Telisha Johnson added eight points, while Enjoli Mason and Kristen Davenport provided six points apiece.

North Lenoir (10-1 overall) didn't allow a basket defensively on 21 consecutive C.B. Aycock possessions. The Golden Falcons finally scored when Kendra Speight knocked down the back end of a two-shot foul two minutes into the second quarter.

Seventy-six seconds later, Camille Williams sank a 10-foot jump shot off Courtnei Gilbert's assist for Aycock's first field goal after 12 straight misses.

Gilbert, who fouled out, dished out three assists.

Ivy Hartzell paced the Golden Falcons' offense with nine points. Williams added six points, while Imari Howell tallied four points.

"We didn't have everybody playing together for 32 minutes," said Aycock head coach Carrie Reynell. "They just out-played us and out-hustled us. If we had played the whole game like we did the last five minutes, we would have been ok."
