WILMINGTON -- Lyndsey Frederick delivered 12 of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as Eastern Wayne captured a 52-38, season-opening win over Laney on Monday night.

With her team trailing 33-32 at the end of three quarters, Frederick stepped up and ignited the Warrior offense with 12 consecutive points which put Eastern Wayne in front for good.

Jazmine Middleton added 12 points in the victory.

Eastern Wayne (1-0) will host South Central on Wednesday in a rematch of last year's second-round Class 3-A playoff game that ended the Warriors' season.

Conquerors fall to RCA

Raleigh Christian outscored Faith Christian 12-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away and earn a 40-32 win on Monday evening.

The Conquerors (1-2) trailed just 28-25 entering the final quarter but struggled to knock down open shots and failed to score at least 10 points in three of the four quarters.

"We don't shoot well so we have to shoot a lot of shots," said Faith head coach Eddie Smith. "We still didn't shoot a good percentage. The difference in the game was they shot better than we did."

Alyssa Hill led Faith with 12 points and Madison Caudle had eight.

Rachel Turner and Roxane Wilkins each scored 12 for Raleigh Christian.

Rams fall

WINTERVILLE -- Perenial 3-A power South Central did not show any signs of slowing down as they defeated Greene Central 70-31 on Monday night.

Shanice Pettiway led the Rams with nine points. Dominique Graham added six points in the loss.

Greene Central (1-2 overall) will travel to Washington on Dec. 2.

Falcons falter

FOUR OAKS -- Courtnei Gilbert scored ten points and grabbed four rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Charles B. Aycock dropped its season opener to South Johnston 50-30.

Imari Howell added eight points and four boards for the Golden Falcons. Tori Benton chipped in four points and four rebounds.

Aycock (0-1) travels to county rival Goldsboro today.

Boys' basketball

Falcons impress

FOUR OAKS -- Charles B. Aycock opened its basketball campaign with an 87-82 overtime victory over South Johnston on Monday night.

The balanced Golden Falcon attack was led by 13 points from Isaac Rowles and Brandon Winford. Melanza Hayes added 12 points and Tyheim Pitt chipped in 11.

C.B. Aycock (1-0 overall) visits Goldsboro today.

EW dealt loss

WILMINGTON -- Eastern Wayne never got its offense on track as it fell 58-37 to Laney on Monday.

The game was the season opener for both teams.

Jamar Cyrus led the Warriors with eight points. Dominique Sadler added seven points in the loss.

Eastern Wayne (0-1 overall) will play host South Central on Wednesday.

Wrestling

Gators sunk

DEEP RUN -- South Lenoir dominated the middle weights as they bested Spring Creek 52-27 on Monday night.

Daniel Richter (119 pounds), Sebastian Johnson (171) and David Hernandez (215) each earned wins by pinfall for the Gators. Garret Lewis (112) won by decision and heavyweight Josh Rodriguez received a forfeit.

Spring Creek (0-3 overall) will be back on the mat Dec. 4 at Princeton.

JV sports

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 42, Princeton 17 -- Brooke Barfield scored a game-high 13 points and delivered 10 steals as the Eagles soared past the Dawgs. Katie Isenhower turned in a solid performance in the paint with eight points and nine rebounds. Nikki Fitzmorris grabbed 11 boards in the victory.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Country Day 22, St. Mary's 17 -- The Chargers picked up their first win of the season behind a 15 point effort from Sarah Best. Mollie McDonald added four points in the win. Wayne Country Day (1-1 overall) will host Terra Ceia on Dec. 12.

* Boys' basketball: C.B. Aycock 42, South Johnston 31 -- Shepherd Whitfield led the Golden Falcons with 17 points and six rebounds. Jalen Williams pulled down six rebounds. C.B. Aycock (1-0 overall) is the guest of Goldsboro today.

Middle schools

* Girls' basketball: Eastern Wayne 33, Greenwood 30 -- Brandy Johnson stole the show for Greenwood by scoring 23 of the team's 30 points, but it was Eastern Wayne who improved to 3-0 overall. Kaceia Exum paced the ballanced Warrior attack with 13 points. Divonnie Powell added seven.

* Girls' basketball: Norwayne 29, Dillard 23 -- Meredith Burroughs led Norwayne (3-0 overall) with 15 points. Shakira Campbell paced Dillard (2-1 overall) with 17.

* Girls' basketball: Rosewood 36, Brogden 16 -- Holly Heath led the Eagles with 14 points. Logan Bills chipped in eight points in the victory. Diamond Farrer paced Brogden with eight points.

* Boys' basketball: Greenwood 54, Eastern Wayne 17 -- Quaviis Holloman scored 13 points and dished out four assists in the victory. Nolan James added eight points, and Greenwood remained unbeaten at 3-0 overall. Eastern Wayne was led by Jaleen Johnson's double-double performance of 12 points and ten rebounds.

* Boys' basketball: Norwayne 41, Dillard 28 -- Norwayne improved to 2-0 on the season. Greg Williams, A.J. Mundle and Jordna Lee each scored eight points respectively to lead the Cobras.
