Wayne Country Day's version of the big three proved too tough to tame in a home-opening, 87-52 rout of Durham Cresset Christian on Tuesday evening.

Reco McCarter, Tim Hobbs and Floronta Wynn combined for 57 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Chargers' attack.

"Those three guys are our leaders, and they set the tone for us on offense," said Wayne Country Day head coach Terry Jones. "Reco has taken it upon himself to work on spreading the ball around and getting guys involved. tonight that work showed."

Cresset led 11-10 three minutes into the opening quarter.

The Chargers answered with a 15-1 run and sealed the visitors' fate.

"We had a couple games early where those guys didn't even play past the first quarter, so tonight they got some meaningful minutes," said Jones. "We wanted to put in some different defenses and look at some things. It was actually nice that we didn't let the horses get out of the gate to early."

McCarter took it upon himself to drop an exclamation point on the unsuspecting Eagles.

In the opening moments of the second quarter, the junior guard collected a lose ball at midcourt, raced into the lane, measured his steps and delivered a two-handed 360-degree dunk that brought the home crowd to its feet.

The Chargers (3-1 overall) built on that momentum and led 46-23 at halftime.

Two 3-pointers from McCarter and dunk by Hobbs made it a 30-point game, and allowed Jones to go to his bench during the third quarter.

"Our bench isn't as long as it has been in the past, but we have some guys that give us good minutes when they get the chance," said Jones. "We had a weekend before the season that we used as a team-building event and our guys have really come together."

By the time the final whistle sounded, every player on the Charger roster had delivered in the scoring column. McCarter finished with 22 points and seven rebounds. Hobbs tallied 18 points and Wynn added 17. No other Charger reached double figures.

Joseph Terry paced Cresset with 28 points.
