SALEMBURG -- Princeton's postseason journey ended in quick fashion with a 28-0 loss to Lakewood in the opening round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A (small-school) western playoffs.

The Dawgs never found their offensive footing on the sloppy Lakewood track and managed just 22 yards of total offense in the game.

"We had too many turnovers, especially in the first half," said Princeton head coach Russell Williamson. "Every time we would get something going on offense, a turnover or a penalty would set us back."

The Leopards raced out in front on a three-yard touchdown pass. A second score minutes later sealed the Dawgs' fate.

Princeton (4-8 overall) was paced offensively by Jeremy Carmichael's 22 yards rushing. Kwame Corprew added 10 yards on five totes.

Quarterback Dylan Myers completed two of his eight passes for 14 yards, but was also the recipient of constant Lakewood pressure. The junior accumulated minus-27 yards on a quarterback sack.

Despite the outcome, Williamson was pleased with how his squad progressed throughout the year.

"We went through a lot this season, on and off the field," said Williamson. "A lot of teams would have folded up and packed it in, but our kids showed a lot of character. I couldn't be prouder of what they accomplished."
