FOXFIRE VILLAGE -- Eastern Wayne junior Jasmine Reeves recorded a top-30 finish in her second appearance in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Classes 1-A/2-A/3-A women's golf championships.

The two-time Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference player of the year, Reeves carded a 36-hole round of 179 on the par-72 West Course at Foxfire Resort and Golf Club. Reeves shot in the mid-40s on the front and back nines each day.

Southern Wayne's Taylor Reaves fashioned a two-day total of 211 in the final meet of her prep career. Princeton's Christi Mileski fired a 196. A junior, Mileski shaved six strokes off her opening-round score.

Courtney Gunter of Porter Ridge captured her third consecutive individual championship with a 4-over par 176. Gunter shot a 2-under par 70 on Tuesday in breezy and cold conditions.

Gunter was tied for first after Monday's round.

Cameron Union Pines successfully defended its state crown with a 19-shot victory over Jamestown Ragsdale. Western Alamance claimed third, followed by Charlotte Catholic and Southern Lee.

Nearly 80 golfers and 12 teams competed in the event.

Walnut Creek LGA

Linda Cannon emerged the play-of-the-day winner during weekly tournament action on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.

Evelyn Rose seized low gross, while Pete Reaves captured low net. Nancy Satterfield won low putts.

Lane Tree LGA

Sherry Minner grabbed game-of-the-week honors during competition on the Lane Tree Golf Club links.

Betty Jean Gurley took low net and low putts.

Tennis

Rams ousted

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central's quest for its second consecutive N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A state title ended with 5-1 loss to Cardinal Gibbons on Tuesday.

Samantha Taylor recorded the lone singles victory, a 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 victory over Ally Tucker.

The Rams concluded the year 18-4 overall.

"I was very proud of my team today," said Greene Central head coach Donald Clark. "This was a great high school tennis match between the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked teams in the state. We got beat by a great team today, but we fought hard and showed that we have one of the top teams in the state, too.

"Overall, I'm very pleased with our season."

* Volleyball: Norwayne d. Mount Olive 22-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-5, 15-8 -- Regan Herndon led the Cobras with 36 points on serve. Norwayne (13-0 overall) will travel to Eastern Wayne for its final match of the season on Thursday.

* Volleyball: Rosewood d. Grantham 23-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-15 -- Heather Lancaster led the Rosewood attack with seven kills. Holly Heath delivered 11 aces, while teammate Amanda Beckert chipped in nine. Rosewood is now 10-3 overall.
