The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has reported that Steelers long snapper and former Southern Wayne High School standout Greg Warren tore his ACL in the team's 21-14 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday.
Warren underwent surgery Monday evening to repair the damage.
Linebacker James Harrison was pressed into long-snapping duties in the third quarter following Warren's exit and immediately fired the ball over punter Mitch Berger's head for a safety. The score propelled the Giants to a come-from-behind victory after quarterback Eli Manning drove the team into the end zone on the ensuing possession.
Warren, a University of North Carolina graduate, was enjoying his most successful professional season to date. A special teams ace, Warren has handled long-snapping duties for the past four seasons. He is currently in the first year of a three-year contract.
