PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock linebacker Tyheim Pitt trudged to the sideline, slowly removed his helmet and slumped over a table before burying his head in his arms.

Pitt's body language was a telling portrait of just how frustrating Friday evening was for the Golden Falcons.

C.B. Aycock mustered just 61 yards of total offense, lost the field position battle all night and dropped a 17-0 decision to Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference rival Wilson Hunt at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Dominique Young's return on the game's opening kickoff gave the Golden Falcons good field position at the Warriors' 48-yard line. They marched down to Hunt's 15-yard line, but Pitt's fumble on fourth-and-1 dashed any hopes of an early lead.

Robert Schick's 35-yard field goal, second-quarter field goal provided Hunt's first-half points.

Young returned the ensuing kickoff to the Warriors' 37-yard line, but again Aycock failed to capitalize on the field position as the drive stalled at the Warriors' 30. The Golden Falcons didn't start another drive outside of their own 20-yard line the remainder of the night.

Workhorse running back Marcus Cobb was held to just 24 yards on 17 carries. Quarterback David Gurganus was lost early in the first quarter with a knee injury and did not return.

"We tried about everything in the book and none of it seemed to work," said Aycock head coach Randy Pinkowski. "We really emphasized this week to the kids about making something big happen on the special teams and getting us a punt return or a kick return and not letting them flip the field position.

"If you're not generating any offense, eventually you're going to lose that game of field position."

Hunt (2-7 overall, 1-2 ECC) led just 3-0 after three quarters but Jasmin Taybron's 3-yard touchdown run with just less than 9 1/2 minutes to play and Schick's extra point extended the margin to 10-0.

The Golden Falcons' following drive stalled and the Warriors put the finishing touches on their second win of the season with Jacob Page's 20-yard scoring strike to Travoris Lofton.

"I thought we played well defensively we just didn't generate any offense," said Pinkowski. "What can you do? It was just one of those nights. Hunt just stepped up to the line of scrimmage and we couldn't do anything about it.

"All season long we haven't been able to put together two halves."

C.B. Aycock (2-7, 0-3) travels to county rival Eastern Wayne next Friday.
