WILSON -- Eastern Wayne became the latest victim of a Wilson Beddingfield second-half barrage on Friday evening.
The Warriors led 21-19 at halftime before the Bruins erupted for 21 consecutive points and walked away with a 40-21, Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference homecoming victory.
Beddingfield quarterback Lance Price finished 11 of 20 through the air for 173 yards and three touchdowns and one interception.
"We played well for all four quarters," said Eastern Wayne head coach Jeff Price. "We're trying to get things done around some injuries and despite all that, those aren't excuses. Beddingfield made a couple of great plays there at the very end.
"That's how they do it. They play you even and get a quick strike or get behind somebody and get a quick score. I thought we played even with them all night except for a few big plays."
Warriors running back Mac Stover ran for 156 yards including 96 in the first half. Stover connected with quarterback Dan Price on a 39-yard screen pass for a score late in the first quarter. Stover added a 2-yard score on fourth-and-goal to give Eastern Wayne a 14-13 lead midway through the second quarter.
Dan Price also tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Will White with 14 seconds remaining in the first half.
"The first half was really good to us," said coach Price. "The third quarter wasn't bad, either. Beddingfield got a score in the third quarter and they got a few breaks in the second half.
"Their athletes just took over. Our guys gave a great effort and I'm really proud of them."
Eastern Wayne (5-4, 2-1 ECC) entertains county rival Charles B. Aycock on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Little Big Horn.
