MT. GILEAD -- Mount Olive College standout Jonathan Greene fired a blistering 30 on the back nine and emerged the individual champion during "The Preview At Tillery" contested at Tillery Tradition Golf Club.

Greene finished the two-day, 36-hole event at 6-under-par 138.

As a team, the No. 28-ranked Trojans rallied from a four-stroke deficit to claim the championship with a 12-stroke victory -- 576-588 -- over runner-up Queens University of Charlotte. It was Mount Olive's second tournament crown in five fall events.

Scott Woodard complemented Greene's effort with a 141 after firing a second-round 67, which matched his own school record. Fabrizio Ceppi contributed a 150, while Pete Skirpstas and Ryan Campbell each carded a 152.

The Trojans return to action Feb. 24-26, 2009, in the Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.) University Tournament.

Women's golf

MT. GILEAD -- Kristin Moberg matched her own mark in school history with a second-round 76 and helped Mount Olive finish third out of five teams in "The Preview at Tillery."

The Trojans posted a two-day total of 688.

Valentina Urquiola ended up with a 36-hole score of 160, while Moberg was three strokes back. Deborah Woodrum contributed a 180 and Brooke Newell recorded a 183.

Mount Olive begins its spring season Feb. 9-10, 2009, at the Tusculum (Tenn.) College Intercollegiate, which will be contested in Kiawah Island, S.C.

Women's soccer

THOMASVILLE -- Lyndsay Brennan, who has vaulted to second place on the Mount Olive College women's soccer career points list, was named the Conference Carolinas player of the week.

Brennan has 109 points in her career and is third all-time with 27 assists.

The senior midfielder from Springfield, Va., has recorded a goal and/or an assist in each of her last four matches. She assisted on the game-winning goal in the 67th minute against Converse (S.C.) College.

Mount Olive (6-10-0 overall) has won three straight Conference Carolinas matches and is within striking distance of earning a first-round tournament game at home.

Volleyball

THOMASVILLE -- Mount Olive College outside hitter Alicia Mote, who posted 21 kills in an upset of regionally-ranked Pfeiffer University, has been selected the Conference Carolinas women's volleyball player of the week.

Mote added nine digs and six service aces as the Trojans handed Pfeiffer their first league loss of the season. She ranks first in the league and 20th nationally in kills per game (3.78).

The Trojans, who have won five of their last seven matches, conclude a four-game homestand today against Coker (S.C.) College. Mount Olive (11-13 overall) leads the series 11-3 since 2001.
