Faith Christian opened its N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal Region 2-A Conference tournament with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 victory over Falls Road on Thursday.

Rebecca Smith contributed 15 assists, three aces and one kill. Alyssa Hill finished with eight kills and three aces and Brooke Anderson added five kills, two digs and an ace. Kaitlyn Floars had two kills a dig and an ace, while Jennifer Christopher chipped in five assists and an ace.

Madison Caudle provided three kills.

Faith (10-4 overall) entertains Trinity Christian of Greenville today.

Cross country

SC boys prevail

Spring Creek's compiled a team score of 29 to capture the boys portion of the Carolina 1-A Conference meet at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park.

Princeton finished second with 33 points, followed by county archrival North Johnston with 67. Rosewood and North Duplin both failed to record a team score.

Rosewood's Nick Britt finished first with a time of 19 minutes, 43 seconds. Midway's Larry Pitts, who crossed the line in 20:00, took second. Princeton's Adam Peedin was third in 20:29 and teammate Ethan Anderson was fourth with a time of 20:38.

The Gators' Drew Pierce was fifth in 20:47 and Johnny Kearny earned a seventh-place finish. Spring Creek's Corey Howell, Andrew Sweedenburg, and Joe Lancaster were eighth, ninth and 11th, respectively.

North Duplin's Caleb Day crossed the finish line in 10th place.

JV sports

* Football: Eastern Wayne 25, Wilson Hunt 18 -- Ryan Jones finished with 187 yards on the ground and two touchdowns for the Warriors. Chris Andrews added a rushing score and Brian Castalow threw a 16-yard touchdown pass. Trey Hill and Trey Brewington made 10 tackles each and Donald Williams picked off a pair of passes. Barrett contributed eight tackles and an interception as the Eastern Wayne defense held Hunt scoreless in the second half. The Warriors (2-4 overall, 1-1 ECC) host Wilson Beddingfield next Thursday.

* Football: Goldsboro 32, Greene Central 8 -- Darius Currie scored a pair of touchdowns on the ground and Mike Sawyer added two rushing touchdowns for the Cougars. Cortez Sprangle was 12 for 21 through the air for 196 yards. Goldsboro travels to Farmville Central next Thursday.

* Football: Kinston 22, C.B. Aycock 20 -- Marquis Bryant led the Golden Falcons attack with 169 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Farmer completed 2 of 5 passes for 29 yards and also had a score on the ground. Bryant, Chris Dawson and Stevie Mitts each had five tackles.

* Football: Wilson Beddingfield 13, Southern Wayne 6 -- Delfawn Worrells tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Quintin Smith for Southern Wayne's lone score. Quintae Bradshaw, Jaquan Cobb and Devantae Ashford combined to rush for 152 yards. Robert Lennox and Tobius Flow made six tackles apiece. Dylan Jacobs finished with five tackles and Maquan Donnelly recorded four. Southern Wayne (4-3 overall, 1-1 ECC) visits Kinston next Thursday.

Middle schools

* Football: Greenwood 16, Eastern Wayne 8 --Jalan Spruiel and Grant Hruby had touchdown runs of 80 and 20 yards respectively for Greenwood. Greenwood hosts Norwayne next Thursday.

* Football: Grantham 28, Spring Creek 0 -- Tory Carmichael had touchdown runs of 39 and 3 yards for Grantham and Thomas Kelly tacked on a 34-yard score on the ground. D.J. Masses hauled in a 9-yard touchdown pass. Grantham (4-1, 2-0 WCMSAC) travels to Brogden next Thursday.

* Football: Brogden 24, Rosewood 6 -- Ronell Outlaw scored a pair of touchdowns for Brogden and Akil Moore scored on a 35-yard run. Tyree Manley and Khalil Faison each recorded six tackles. Khaliel Owens turned in an interception and a fumble recovery. Brogden (4-2, 3-0 WCMSAC) hosts Grantham next Thursday.

* Volleyball: Spring Creek d. Grantham 13-25, 25-14, 11-25, 25-18, 15-11-- Karen Best served two aces for the Gators and Hannah Keel, Amanda Casey and Dorothy Brooks each had an ace. Spring Creek (7-4, 4-3 WCMSAC) visits Eastern Wayne on Monday.
