MOUNT OLIVE -- Racey Bartley recorded a match-high 13 kills and Marianna Gattegno keyed a late scoring run in her first collegiate start as Mount Olive defeated St. Andrews 25-18, 25-15, 25-15 in their Conference Carolinas women's volleyball match Tuesday evening at Kornegay Arena.

The Trojans wore pink jerseys for the match as part of the "Pink for the Cure" campaign during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Trojans trailed 7-6 in the third set when back-to-back service aces by Gattegno highlighted an 8-0 run to put Mount Olive ahead to stay. Bartley and Werling combined on a block and Ham notched her seventh kill of the contest on match point.

Gattegno started in place of conference kills leader Alicia Mote, who is nursing a sore shoulder. Mote is expected to be ready for this weekend's matches. Gattegno admitted to a bit of nervousness going into the match.

"I definitely had some butterflies at the start of the match," said Gattegno, a freshman from Sao Paulo, Brazil. "But once we started playing, I settled down and got into a rhythm."

Gattegno finished with two aces and was one of three Trojans in double figures in digs with 14. Ham finished with 11 digs and Mallory Peavler added a team-high 16 digs, bring her career total to 1,395. Peavler is now five digs away from becoming the second player in Trojan volleyball history to record at least 1,400 career digs.

Werling recorded 20 assists and a match-high three aces. Bartley led all players with three blocks, while Werling added two blocks.

Mount Olive (9-13 overall, 5-4 CC) continues its four-game home stretch with weekend matches against in-state members Pfeiffer (Friday) and Queens University of Charlotte (Saturday).

THOMASVILLE -- Mount Olive goalkeeper Chris Slaughter, who allowed just one goal in two overtime matches last week, has been named the Conference Carolinas men's soccer player of the week.

Slaughter recorded 15 saves in a 1-0 extra-time decision against UNC Pembroke and withstood a 22-shot attack in a 1-1 tie against nationally-ranked Lees-McRae.

A sophomore, Slaughter has a 1.43 goals-against-average and leads all conference keepers with 56 saves. He has four shutouts this season.

The Trojans (8-4-1 overall, 2-3-1 CC) entertain Coker (S.C.) College today. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
