WILSON -- Wayne Christian advanced to the finals of the Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference boys' soccer tournament by defeating host Community Christian 3-0 on Tuesday.
Jordan Crouthamel got the Eagles on the board in the seventh minute by scoring off a rebound. Bradley Yelverton added to Wayne Christian's lead in the second half by scoring off an assist from Josh Powers in the 57th minute. Taylor Gardner capped the scoring in the 72 minute.
Chase King recorded four saves in goal for the Eagles.
Wayne Christian (14-6 overall) faces Trinity of Raleigh for the conference title at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in Wilson.
Volleyball
Hawks drop Cougars
North Lenoir spoiled Goldsboro's senior day with a 25-18, 25-9, 25-9 victory in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play Tuesday.
Asheena Moore finished with eight aces, five kills, and two blocks for the Hawks. Jordan Hudson added 10 assists and Jenna Rouse had nine assists. Heidi Milliken contributed five aces and two kills.
North Lenoir (20-0 overall, 9-0 EPC) concludes regular-season play at home Thursday against Greene Central.
Panthers bag Gators
SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek couldn't hold on after claiming game one and fell to Carolina 1-A Conference opponent North Johnston 25-22, 25-20, 25-20, 25-19 on Tuesday.
Kristin Smith led the Gators with 16 kills, four service aces, four blocks and three digs. Shaquita Brooks tallied 11 kills, eight blocks, two digs and an ace. Randi Oxendine handed out 21 assists to go with four kills, four digs and an ace.
Alex Benton finished with three digs, two kills and an ace.
Spring Creek (7-9 overall, 3-6 Carolina 1-A) concludes regular-season play at home Thursday against archrival North Duplin.
Dawgs corral Chargers
PRINCETON -- Devon Murphy finished with 13 service aces, nine kills and one dig as Princeton defeated Carolina 1-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton 30-28, 25-10, 25-5 on Tuesday.
Erin Schultz passed out 18 assists to go with an ace and Ashley Braswell pounded out 13 kills and an ace. Brittany Baker provided five kills and a block and Amber Wood had two aces.
Nikki Capps added a block and an ace and Danielle Mitchell had a kills.
The Bulldogs (11-5 overall, 5-4 Carolina 1-A) visit archrival Rosewood on Thursday.
Cross country
CBA runs past SW
PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock earned an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference victory over Southern Wayne on Tuesday.
The Golden Falcons compiled a team score of 24 to the Saints' 37.
Eric DuBose was Aycock's highest finisher crossing the line in second place with a time of 18:54. Bobby Cox was fourth in 19:48 and Nathan Jones finished fifth with a time of 20:43. Anthony Gonzalez (6th), Chase Brabhen (7th), Cameron Taylor (8th) and Dylan Barfield (9th) also earned top-10 finishes for the Golden Falcons.
Southern Wayne's Khalil Artis finished first in a time of 18:25 and teammate Chase Gardner was third with a 19:20. Kobi Hood earned a 10th-place finish.
JV sports
* Volleyball: Rosewood d. North Duplin 25-18, 25-17 -- Kerri Jo Gurley provided five aces for the Eagles and Rachel Kornegay added five kills. Rachyle McAlduff chipped in three assists and Chelsea Sawkiw finished with two kills. Megan Tyndall had two kills. Tearra Ammons had four kills, three aces and a block for the Rebels and Jessica Jones added a kill. Rosewood improved to 4-4 in Carolina 1-A Conference play.
* Volleyball: North Johnston d. Spring Creek 25-12, 25-5 -- Spring Creek entertains North Duplin on Thursday.
Middle schools
* Volleyball: Grantham d. Brogden 25-12, 25-11, 14-25, 25-14 -- Meredith Best had six aces for Grantham and Amber Murphy finished with three aces and a kill. Keaton Bradley turned in three assists and Kala Overton contributed three assists, two aces and two kills. Morgan Powell pitched in two aces and two kills and Latrecia Johnson added two aces and a kill. Olivia Giddens also had a kill. Grantham (1-2 Division II) travels to Eastern Wayne on Thursday.
* Volleyball: Grantham Norwayne d. Rosewood 25-14, 25-18, 25-8 -- Reagan Herndon recorded 17 points on serve and Amber Rose had 10. Scout Anderson had four aces for Rosewood. Norwayne (8-0, 3-0) visits Dillard today. Rosewood (5-1) hosts Dillard on Thursday.
* Soccer: Norwayne 8, Rosewood 1 -- Juan Pina scored three goals to lead Norwayne and Collin Zacharzuk also scored twice. Addison Vail, Timothy Naughton and Taylor Phillips each scored as well. P.J. Rhodes and Logan Perkins combined for 13 saves for Norwayne (7-0). Norwayne defeated Grantham 4-1 on Monday.
