Charles B. Aycock's Victoria Benton (9) and libero Ann Sullivan (16) dive for a ball during the third game of their volleyball match against county rival Eastern Wayne on Tuesday afternoon.

PIKEVILLE -- Eastern Wayne came out emotionally flat, never found its rhythm in the serving game and dropped a 25-22, 25-16, 25-19 decision to county and Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Falcons set the tone during the opening game behind strong performances by Rachel Jordan and Jessica Hare. The duo combined for eight points on serve in the victory.

"We were without Miranda Aycock, but our other girls really stepped up," said Aycock head coach Davis Harris. "I thought we passed the ball much better, and we know that we can't hit unless we make good passes and get the ball to our setters."

The Golden Falcons claimed game two thanks in part to nine service errors from the Warriors.

"We made too many mistakes tonight," said Warriors head coach Steve Gregorcyk said. "The girls fought tooth and nail at Southern Wayne yesterday and got a nice win, but today we didn't have the same emotion.

"We would spot (Aycock) a lead and then when we won the serve back we would hit it long, or into the net, and give them an even bigger advantage."

Aycock finished the match with a decisive, albeit sloppy, win in game three. The teams combined for 21 service errors in the Golden Falcons' 25-19 triumph.

"I wanted to see a little more emotion," said Harris. "We didn't make a lot of mistakes in the flow of the game, but we can't feed off of the other team's errors. We need to force their hand."

On the evening the Golden Falcons were paced by Camille Williams' seven kills and two blocks. Beth Carter added five kills.

C.B. Aycock (7-7 overall, 5-4 ECC) will host Southern Wayne on Thursday.

"I think if we play like we are capable, we could be a factor in the conference tournament," said Harris. "We just have to finish strong and keep our focus."

Megan Hruby led Eastern Wayne with eight kills and two blocks. Amethyst McPhail and Andy Macias provided solid defense for the Warriors, who fell to 2-13 overall and 2-7 in the league. They entertain Kinston on Thursday.
