MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College has earned a No. 18 ranking in the first regular-season Golfstat Division II men's top national poll.

It's the first-ever ranking for men's golf in school history.

Mount Olive, through the first month of play, has the nation's third-lowest scoring average (286) through three tournaments. The Trojans set a school-record 21-under par 555 during the recently-contested Gardner's BBQ Dogfight, hosted by Barton College.

Individually, Scott Woodard is tied for 16th nationally with a 70.67 stroke average. Woodard, a Princeton High graduate, has three top-10 finishes and has shot par or under in five of six rounds this season.

The Trojan linksters become the fifth different sport in school history to earn a national ranking. Baseball won the NCAA Division II College World Series last spring. The men's basketball, men's soccer and men's tennis teams have also been nationally ranked.

Volleyball

MOUNT OLIVE -- Racey Bartley provided a match-high 19 kills, but Mount Olive suffered a 23-25, 27-25, 12-25, 25-17, 15-11 loss to Anderson (S.C.) University on Friday evening.

The loss snapped the Trojans' five-match home win streak.

Alicia Mote finished with a double-double -- 15 kills, 12 digs -- and also served three aces. Joanie Werling handed out 49 assists, while Kailey Preece and Corie Skislak had two blocks apiece.

Kari Ham and Mallory Peavler collected 16 and 15 digs, respectively.

Anderson (10-10 overall) swept the regular-season series and improved to 6-1 in Conference Carolinas play. The Trojans fell to 7-12 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Mount Olive returns to action Friday at Converse (S.C.) College and is the guest of Limestone (S.C.) University on Saturday.

Women's soccer

MOUNT OLIVE -- Lenoir-Rhyne converted a penalty kick four minutes into the match and cruised past Mount Olive College 4-0 at Amon Field on Friday afternoon.

Four different players scored for L-RC, which owned a decisive 26-2 edge in shots on goal. Trojan goal keepers Lindsey McIntyre and Jenn Sastre notched six and two saves, respectively. McIntyre played 79 minutes and Sastre played the final 11.

Mount Olive fell to 2-10 overall, while Lenoir-Rhyne improved to 9-3.
