WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock picked up its second win in a seven day span over Eastern Carolina 3-A conference rival Wilson Hunt on Wednesday.
The Golden Falcons prevailed 6-3 behind some strong singles play from Ashley Howell and Nicole Kessler, who each battled back from significant first set deficits.
Hollie Baker, Abbey Strickland and Harlie Howard also earned a singles point for Aycock.
The team of Kristen Fischer-Baker picked up the Golden Falcons only win in doubles.
Aycock improved to 8-4 overall (7-1 ECC). The Falcons will travel to Greene Central on Monday.
Rams escape
SNOW HILL -- Greene Central won two doubles points and defeated Edenton Holmes 6-3 on Wednesday.
Lauren Carraway, Jessica Gray, Abby Sugg and Abbey Dail each prevailed in singles action for the Rams.
"Abbey Dail turned in her finest performance of her varsity career," Greene Central hea coach Donald Clark said. "She hit some great shots during the third set tiebreak, and pulled out a big win for us."
The teams of Elizabeth McLawhorn-Carraway and Sugg-Dail each earned a doubles point in the victory.
Greene Central 13-3 overall will host Charles B. Aycock on Monday.
Gators grab two
MOUNT OLIVE -- Spring Creek won both matches of a rare tennis double header against North Duplin on Wednesday. The Gators prevailed 6-2 in the first match, and 5-2 in the nightcap.
The score sheet looked identical in both matches, with Spring Creek capturing the first four singles showdowns. Rachel Lewis, Jana Kutsch, Lauren Player and Ivey Best each earned a point with singles victories.
Nikki Goodman and Kayla Taylor won for North Duplin.
The doubles teams of Jessica Pittman-Player and Lewis-Kutsch were victorious for the Gators.
Spring Creek (7-1 overall) will host James Kenan on Tuesday.
Volleyball
Hawks unbeaten
LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir kept its perfect record in tact as they defeated county rival South Lenoir 25-20, 24-26, 25-17, 25-23 on Wednesday.
Jordan Hudson distributed 37 assists for the Hawks. Marissa Lanier tallied 17 kills and Kristen Davenport chipped in 29 service points.
The Hawks improved to 15-0 on the season.
North Lenoir will host Eastern Plains 2-A conference foe Farmville Central today.
Soccer
Cougars halted
LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir downed Eastern Plains 2-A conference rival Goldsboro 7-0 on the soccer pitch on Wednesday afternoon.
Hugo Garcia and Grayson Phillips each neeted two goals for the Hawks.
Robb Harrell, Tyler Sanders and Jaime Ellison each added a goal in the win.
North Lenoir (8-4-1 overall, 3-0 EPC) will travel to Rosewood today.
Middle schools
* Football: Norwayne d. Rosewood 46-16 -- A.J. Mundle rushed for three touchdowns as the Cobras poured the offense on Rosewood. Quarterback Adam Pate found Ben Roth for an additional score. Norwayne added a defensive touchdown on a Cody Garris interception return.
