J.C. Holt scampered home on a wild pitch and Mississippi claimed its first-ever Southern League championship with a 3-2, 10-inning victory over Carolina.

Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the 10th inning with Holt at second base and Matt Young at first base, Carolina reliever Chris Mobley uncorked a wild pitch. As Holt attempted to advance, Mudcats catcher Brad Davis picked up the ball and tried to gun down Young at second base.

But the throw ricocheted off Chris Coghlan's face and rolled across the dirt as Holt crossed the plate. The Braves won all three games in the best-of-series by one run in extra innings.

Carolina finished with a league-leading 80 wins in regular-season play and was Southern League runner-up for the first time since 1994. The Mudcats won SL championships in 1995 and 2003.
