North Duplin tops Northside 32-31

YEATESVILLE -- North Duplin fought back from an early deficit and held on to beat Northside 32-31 on Monday evening.
Trailing 16-0 after one quarter, the Rebels' offense came alive for two scores in the second period. Akeem Cox capped the second touchdown with a 12-yard plunge.
Cox finished with 203 yards and three touchdowns rushing.
Quarterback Marcus Kornegay put the Rebels ahead with a 2-yard run in the third quarter. He completed 13 of 23 passes for 154 yards, including a first-quarter scoring strike to Quentin Graham.
Cox added fourth-quarter TD scoring runs of 9 and 1 yards.
Following Cox's third touchdown, Northside marched into North Duplin's red zone with two minutes left in regulation. Three plays later, the Panthers' drive stalled on a holding a penalty.
Northside's final possession ended with a botched snap which led to a missed 40-yard field goal.
The Rebels (2-0 overall) entertain Jones Senior on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at H.E. Grubbs Field.
